Hi All

Came across this you tube video looking at a new 12v air conditioning unit product on the market for Campervans and Motorhomes 6m and less. So new it’s not even priced yet.

Just wondered what you all thought and whether there are any good 12v alternatives out there ?

Got a 6m Ducato panel van conversion myself and in the market for a unit so v interested.

Video courtesy of Andy and Alan and a bit cringey but stick with it !

To get attention, thinking of renaming this thread ...

FREE BEER and GIN TO EVERYONE OVER THE AGE OF 18 !!!!!!!!!

Is nobody interested in 12v air conditioning?

A bit surprised at the lack of interest in a product that seems to be quite unique (or maybe it isn’t ? )

Something doesn't add up here.

First of all it's 18 amps at 12v so that's 216w

Then it's "just" 48 amps at 240v so that's 11.5kw.

Then it's 1100w.

Anyway it's nothing new, it's an AC unit with a 12v compressor, it will use the same power (in Watts) as a 240v unit but quickly flatten the battery.

I can't hear what he is trying to say through a couple of layers of old T shirts, so I went to their web site which has nothing about it at all, there is some mention of other units that will run on 12v but no technical spec so I am struggling to find anything to comment on, sorry as its usually something I would be interested in.

we have a cool my camper system. works really well at a good price if you can find one second hand, BUT its 240v .... has the advantage that you dont always have to carry it round but you do need to be on EHU

one on ebay at the moment. you will need the brackets to hang the exterior unit outside though - despite what the advert says !

Cool my camper are made by Eurom and are cheaper if you buy direct 👍

But they're 240v..

I doubt (but happy to be proven wrong) that you will get a 12v air con unit for the van that does actually deliver a cool van without emptying your batteries of charge. you might be better off going for a roof mounted fan that extracts the hot air and by keeping your doors/windows closed 'cooler' air comes in from lower down, though i suspect even that wont be comfortable in very hot climes

have you thought about doing some research on how the units fitted to delivery vans work? see if there is an alternative way of doing things without paying 'additional motorhome add on prices' (as everything seems to go up in price when you mention motothome !!) i suspect however that the units fitted to delivery vans (not lorries) need the engine running for them to work?

It's low wattage that is important not low voltage. Wattage is the amount of power things use.

Low wattage things don't do much work, here lies the problem 😊

This thread started out about 12v systems.. 🤔

I know beggar all about electrics.....................but I know that you can’t get blood out of a stone, and you’re unlikely to get cool before the battery is flat. I think ;) :giggle:
