Paul,

Whereabouts are you located & do you have a transferable NCD?

These things can have a great affect on insurance costs

I'm curious to know how many Funsters are in their early 40's!

I'm still a teenager - without the spots (in my head):)

I'm 45, our PVC was valued at £55k, insurance with Safeguard - we are about £600 iirc, but this is only our second year of having a MH, so our first yr with a NCD - no accidents etc for 15+yrs in cars.
Safeguard required an alarm, but no tracker. I went with them last year as they were one of the few firms that would cover our import on a chassis no whilst we sorted out the UK registration and stuck with them this year as they offer a new for old replacement for the first 2 yrs.
i'll shop around more next year.

I'm in a fairly quiet and safe area a few miles from Blackpool, I do have a claim free history, but the rest of my vehicles are on a family fleet policy, and it's not entirely clear if it accrues NCD or if my insurance will let me mirror some NCD, but it's highly possible

Paul if you are on a Fleet ( traders policy ie if your on a company ins ) you may find they may not take your ncb into consideration. When Due to family circumstances had to change from being self employed to employed , I found out that , car and mh insurance would not take my 9 yr plus ncb ( had a traders policy due to being in the automotive trade) .
I have used Comfort , no problems but as soon as i turned 60 they put the premium up. I am now with Adrian Flux ( last two years ). I tend to shop around each year as i have to watch the pennies

Paul, my Comfort Premium is based on a 1-year NCB. We have numerous other insurance policies but none of their attributable NCBs were transferable to my MoHo policy. My policy was based solely on my driving record.

Comfort policies are net policies so NCB is irelavant. Comfort require an alarm or tracker if value over £40k, if over £75k a tracker required.

I'm not with Comfort anymore as I went to AIB who cover three vehicles for me with LV and/or Highways which is their motorhome subsidiary. But . . . I endorse everything said about Comfort and would have no hesitation returning should I need to.

A word of warning when shopping around for polices do make sure you get a proper Motorhome policy and not a car policy. A car policy won't give you any cove if your awning gets ripped off in a wind and damages the van or a problem with the habitation gas that causes damage, etc.

We're also with Comfort £288 including European breakdown. Value £30k, 6k miles per year, stored on home driveway, 2 drivers (me 40, hubby 50) and one non-fault accident last year (in one of our cars, not the MH).

just to correct Lenny HB, Comfort require an alarm/tracker once over £55,000, thats what they told me on the phone this morning. I drew a blank with my local broker who have the rest of my fleet, they did however know of Comfort, at least they know the parent company who trade as Comfort, and they're well established. They said they would 'sort something out' re NCD, but seeminly Comfort aren't too strict on it.

I also had a quote from the dealer who is supplying the van, they fit a Cobra alarm, a 2-1 add-on which makes me compliant with Cat1, which is £499 fitted. I have a phobia about them pulling my nice new van to bits to thread piles of wiring through it. Might be better than coming home to an empty parking space though ?

No use to you at all other than to make you feel better about paying those super high UK insurance policy premiums....

mid 40's here, no claims in 15yrs, Laika Ice Cream van at roughly £60k and premiums are typically £1500 p/a, the VW Golf is about £1k p/a

Comfort obviously upped the limit for an alarm I know the 75k for a tracker is current.
As I said before NCD is irelavant as Comfort operate net policies.

A car policy will also not cover contents.
If they do it will be peanuts ie £150
Neither will a company fleet policy.

Paul I have clients who have Motorhomes on their fleet policy including one who has one valued well over 100k so it can be done
Its just against my better judgement and recommendation.
Managed to get some of my clients insure them on a specialist policy which gives wider cover inc breakdown,eu, full contents cover etc

Just insured our new Globecar Campscout for £380 including unlimited mileage, full UK and EU breakdown, £200 total excess - it's only £20 more than it would be for our 3 year old Globecar and they've mirrored the NCD.

forgive my ignorance, what is a “net policy”?

I 'think' (but don't quote me) it's a bit like paying the basic no-frills price for the actual product you want, I.e. receiving the best price in the first instance without the need for the insurance company to play silly buggers with loyalty discounts etc.

If you insure with Comfort who don't take notice of NCD, what happens if you then go elsewhere to someone who does ... how to you prove your NCD?

Here we go Mel, just for you (page-15 refers of Comforts MoHo Policy, Version-34, dated March-2017):

That's good ... we were with a different company many moons ago and they 'lost' our entitlement which was very, very annoying as we then had to go back to previous insurers to prove it!

Apologies this is (slightly) off topic of original post
Just had the renewal from Aviva for our multi car policy( myself and bride/ 3 cars)
Renewal was £490

Went online to Admiral to sanity check and they came back with £826 for the same cover, i promptly renewed with Aviva and moved on with my life

Next day, Admiral called me asking why I didnt buy theirs, and when i told them, the operative asked if I would buy from them if they could beat the Aviva quote

I sent him away with a big flea in his ear

I'm all set, 10 days from delivery of the van :)

checked with dealer re alarms, just out of curiosity and they told me that they fit Cobra 4615, a device that Amazon sell for about £109. they fit this for £499. I'm struggling to understand (more than the uplift in price for fitting) how something can be any use whatsoever when the device itself is so cheap, based on this, I'm not interested. If £500 was to buy me a reasonable alarm, I may now consider it, regardless of requiring it for insurance or not. As it is, maybe for the first 12 months I will go without, I have other expensive toys which could also be stolen without so much as a siren, they are insured, and protected against theft in other ways
