I know there have been posts on this before, but they have very quickly veered off-topic to discussions on urine, urea, etc.

So had anyone actually done this, and if so, how did you clean the containers?

The stuff crystallises in the container. You would need to use very hot water to clean it. I doubt very much if you cold get it all 100 % clean.
Personally I wouldn’t use one. A good quality 10 litre container would only cost a few pounds.
Much safer.

Why buy in containers when it is cheaper from a petrol station.

£9.95 from Local Caravan Shop for 25 litre water container and no risk of A&E admission[otherthan for back strain!]

I took the other route. I bought a food grade water container pi55ed in it. Washed it out. Not had any issues health-wise (if you discount the appointment my wife made for me to see a psychologist) happy days.

As much of a meany as I am, I have to agree buy some dedicated new water containers or some five litre OJ bottles, drink the OJ then a good wash will give you a container.

However with the overall costs of running a van, new would not dent a budget.

If you absolutely have to use one, use it for flushing the toilet (decant into small squeezy drinks bottle - nice directable jet), filling the screen wash, cleaning solar panels/windows etc.

If you think about it you probably use a fair bit of water that doesn't actually go anywhere near your body.

If you're coming to Spain look out for 'Regas' water bottles. You may find them at Carreforre.
These are 8Lt. and are made of hard plastic not the wobbly stuff.

Bizarrely, I found one in a 'corner shop' in Fromista when I was doing my Camino walk three years ago.

Given half a chance, I'll be calling in on my way back to the ferry in Feb.

No intention of doing so but just wondered what people thought...

When I manage to find an adblu pump I'll refuse them that way, as suggested.

Its a non toxic mix of urea and deionised water so can't see why it couldn't be used for drinking water.

I always wondered if Bear Grills was a member.

Yes, I was surprised to see this re-surface.

I took peoples' advice and bought a 10 litre water container.
