just come back from 2 weeks at scotland. great time. someone in a hire vehicle went onto a verge whist I were in the passing lane and landed on top back corner of motorhome awning then with help scraped knocked the end cap off the awning and took out the tail light. the cupboards internally seem to be slightly out of line 3/4 of an inch but unsure of any further damage. doesn't look massively damaged. just need to get it booked in for an inspection. but will have to pay 300 excess towards. anything like this happened to anyone?

From my interpretation you were Stopped in passing place and you were hit by passing van?
That damage sounds quite serious?😊

My concern based upon the little information available is that your weather seals which are mostly hidden will be breached in one or multiple places and you may not find this out until well after any repair and possibly result in significant internal damage.

Not sure that I understand your post but internal cupboards displaced by 3/4 inch sounds like major damage.
my motorhome isnt like brand new and do think there was a slight out of alignment before hand. maybe just see what the repairs and professionals think

did have a bit of tape from when I originally bought it but mainly awning etc. we paid 6200 for it and it's the best thing we got. it's on insurance for 15000 but dont think that matters

Unless you can prove you were stationary or the other driver admits it was their fault, it will go for 50/50 blame.

the driver said it was his fault. soon as he came towards me I pulled the handbrake up and waited for him to pass I thought he was going to tip over. gave him the are u trying that look. he said he almost tipped it twice that day

Have you looked on the roof to see if it’s creased? As the ceiling looks to be bowed down inside.😊

Did the other driver stop and exchange details ?
yes he was a young ish lad maybe same age as me. I've been driving big ish vehicles a while now and also at work so I'm good at judging gaps lol

You can claim the £300 excess off the other drivers insurance, I would have it checked professionally. If the van is an older model and it's, been knocked out of square, they may write it off.

Hopefully he tells his insurance that too.

Was the passing place on your left hand side or did you cross the road to go into it?

I would guess from photo that passing place was on OP's side of the road.

but what would be the rite off price as I've done work on inside to our comfort and upgraded bits that would cost a bit

He’s clearly at fault then if you are on your side and in the passing place. I hope you pursue his insurance.

hire company will deal with these all the time. I'm surprised they gave him something that big with no experience driving them

and bang goes his damage deposit unless he insured it!

not sure how all hiring fees work. he looked gutted tho.
Generally, there's a (large) "deposit" paid (normally credit card) that's refunded at the end of hire assuming no damage. It's a bit like CDW insurance when you hire a car but much higher.

I hope if anything does get written off or damage that costs a bit would go in my favour
