This year so far:

Had my 70th birthday
Kept C1 licence
Bought a 2012 motorhome with 3500 miles on it
Had my super big fridge fail totally. Cooling Unit replaced last week cost £711
Paid by Warranty
Towed my Smart car trailer 60 miles with the handbrake on cost £300
Chipped my windscreen then
Two days later another chip that developed into a full-height crack
Third time this has happened in 54 years of motoring
Dog bitten by another. £505 Sunday emergency vet fee for two and a half hours work. Not my vet.
But only cost me the excess.
Windscreen replaced today cost £6000
Cost me £60 excess

I'm trying to decide whether I'm lucky or unlucky :D.

I would love to know where the money has gone for the windscreen, who made what, percentages and ratio, how much it cost to make, which part of the chain made the most out of it, so intrigued and mystified how a piece of single glazed glass costs 6 grand. There should be jail sentences pending.

I agree entirely but I'm not surprised. I had one fitted 10 years or so ago in an, at the time, 20 year old motorhome. That one cost £2300.

On a different tack: I'm a member of a car Club that has small production runs (100+) made of screens for the various models. These are specified in the UK, made in Japan, then shipped over here. Part of the spec is that they're electrically heated (never available OEM). Cost to members £200 - £250 depending on model.
