Christmas Eve sunset, North Yorks

Contrast 6 hours apart, flaming red sunset looking out over the Cheshire plain toward Liverpool and the hills of North Wales snapped a few hundred yards from my house, followed by the quiet stillness of a foggy evening across a water satruated field viewed from my back door

After the very heavy rain this last few days this morning was frosty and sunny with a light breeze. Wandered down the South Tyne riverbank behind the hose late morning impossible yesterday as the river was in spate, from debris left at high water mark it reached more than 2 metres above normal for this time of year.

SW Northumberland just North of Hadrians Wall a wildly beautiful area known in the Middle Ages and the Border Reivers era as the Middle Marches. After almost a week of miserable wet windy overcast weather it was a pleasure to wake up to frosty sunny weather. So a birdwatching afternoon in the Edges Green/ Scotchcoulthard area just North of Haltwhistle and a few photos

After a warm and therefore pitch black, wet and muddy second half of December, the winter has finally arrived. The morning was crispy -15c but the afternoon was perfect for a little hike with the dog, at -5c. So much more light with a little snow on the ground and a welcome change that the dog is not covered in mud from head to toes afterwards
