I used to have patterns like that on the inside of my bedroom window when I was a kid. No central heating in those days!

Yep me too, our net curtains used to be frozen to the bedroom windows when we were kids

I use to think our house in Saddleworth was cold .Four floor stone built alongside a river. My bedroom was above the kitchen on the third floor but my sisters bedroom was in the attic on the forth floor.
We only got central heating when North Sea Gas came to the area. It was a package of a boiler, water heater and set amount of radiators. For some reason they couldn’t put a radiator in the attic but I had one in my bedroom.

Went out for a celebratory birthday meal recently (stretching the ‘photo from the last 24hours’ rule slightly as I never like to reveal actual birthdays on social media for security)
Mrs KNWH and I share the same birthday, although different years, and it was also exactly 50 years since our first date.
She ordered a glass of Prosecco and then they brought us two more complimentary glasses as they knew it was a celebration. I don’t drink, but she did her best. Also got a candle in our desserts (obviously not the whole number of candles required: no dessert is big enough )

They are/were to allow privacy, you can see out, but they're quite hard to see through from outside. Why we had them in the bedrooms & not downstairs, I don't know

SW Northumberland, the Stanegate (it’s the full name of the road) to the North of Bardon Mill just South of the so called Military Road with Hadrians Wall running along the skyline. First 4 photos looking NW across the famous Roman fort and settlement of Vindolanda (worth a google and especially a visit for anyone touring the area) A very careful drive mid afternoon, icy patches and snow on the road, but a stunningly beautiful landscape a five minute drive from home.

Lovely calm sunny frosty morning on the South Tyne here in SW Northumberland, a riverbank walk behind the house and some nice reflections.

After a warm and therefore pitch black, wet and muddy second half of December, the winter has finally arrived. The morning was crispy -15c but the afternoon was perfect for a little hike with the dog, at -5c. So much more light with a little snow on the ground and a welcome change that the dog is not covered in mud from head to toes afterwards

Net curtains are there to be removed immediately, I think they are provided as a cultural test by the style police.

Today's dog walk highlighted the benefits of the correct angles for harnessing solar power. Looking North, all the raised ridges had the frost melted off them, while the level bits inbetween were still frosty.

It was misty when I set out and I was hoping that this next pic would have highlighted the millions of tiny ice crystals that were suspended in the air, but sometimes the camera does lie ?

Castleton CMC, frozen over, site closed until Saturday.

We had frozen water tank last night, now sorted but think will happen again tonight.

I have learnt however that there should be a fresh water heater kicking in when below degrees, ours didn't.

Further investigation suggests that back in 2019, the fresh water "frost" heater was not installed because had not purchased the Winter pack. I am hoping to clarify this shortly.
