They have only scrapped the pre-departure test to come back into the UK you still need a Day 2 test which is PCR until an unspecified date in October when they switch to lateral flow.

Might be worth stocking up on cheap lateral flows tests before the prices are hiked on those...

All good news, although the change from pcr to lateral flow test requirements on returning to England unfortunately won't come in until towards the END of October - date TBC.

Lateral flow test kits of 7 units are free from your GP, just collected a box this afternoon. Don't pay - you've already paid!

What’s wrong with tomorrow?
If the decision has been made why wait six weeks to implement it.
Surely if the decision is right in October it’s right now.

Unless you have to preregister the test code like you do now for PCR Tests in which case you cannot use the NHS tests, or perhaps you buy one test and reuse the codes instead.

How will they know if you’ve completed the LTF test at home after 2days if your not sending in a sample ? 😖

As I understand, the new requirement will be for 'supervised' lateral flow tests. ie commercial ones that are paid for.

Government is still deciding whether travellers will have to present in person, or whether a video test will be acceptable?

The practicalities are yet to be determined, which I guess is why they are not going to introduce it until the end of October - while they work out the system.

How the hell are they going to supervise a LFT in the UK. 300 people get of a plane. 30 minutes each test You will be at the airport all night.
So if its a supervised test near your home, where?. As it has not been explained this is just going to blow up the the governments face.
Its after you fail this supervised LFT test that you then go and have a government PCT test free of charge which will be sequenced. How will they know that this test will need sequencing when in the main the general population is not sequenced. By October end this will all be dumped as long as there is not an explosion of cases.
Its becoming a farce. You go on holiday out of the UK one needs a LFT when you get back. You go on holiday in the UK in a large hotel no LFT. You go over to Ireland or NI do you need a LFT. You go to Scotland ?

Delay is surely more to do with placating Tory donors who have stocks of PCR tests they need to shift! We prebought our LF tests before coming away - now a waste of money, okay that was our risk - but still have to pay through the nose for PCR tests , returning 6 October.

Richard.

Perhaps it's financially beneficial for them to give the PCR testing companies time to sell their current stock of kits?

Unfortunately if you live in the North Korean capital of Europe, Scotland wee Krankie has decided that they the Scottish autocratic government will not adopt the latest changes to the travel traffic light system that's being adopted in England.
So Scotland will continue to be charged for rip off PCR tests after October.
You just couldn't make this **** up.

So those living just North of the border who fly out of Newcastle will volunteer to pay for the test because the Dear Leader says you must

Exactly if you live in the Scottish borders why would you travel to Edinburgh for a flight knowing the Scottish Gestapo are forcing you to pay for a scam PCR test

The bit I dont get .

We travel on 25th oct.
After the 4th only day 2 test
Towards end of oct only cheaper lateral flow needed
Where do you get the cheaper lft from. Can you use the free lft from pharmacies or visit a testing centre.
Confused.
