I saw this on a site called Dispatches (yes. That's how they spell it)

"Most EU countries have already confirmed they will allow UK nationals to enter and remain for up to 90 days without a tourist visa. In Portugal it is 180 days, and Spain looks to be following suit."

Has anyone else seen anything about this?

Here is the link to the site:

not seen that but if Portugal has 180 and the rest have 90 in any 180 unless you fly direct how does it work?

No. Probably nonsense.

sorry just read a bit of it and it refers to expats..
No ,the 180 days in Portgal is for tourists, Expats live there & have no time limit.

Portugal and Spain have both signed up to the Schengen rules. They can't just ignore them.

Even if they had agreed 180 days unless you fly direct you will still need to transit France with a 90 in 180 day rule. Can't see how that would work.
But hey let's just wait for real time information.

It took the French about 2 minutes to declare a national emergency and close their borders this year. Most rules have a work around if you want it. How would the French know whether you had spent the time in Gibraltar.

I would imagine that the French would either allow Brits to cross or we can expect a large rise in ferries that sail to Spain.

If Spain do the same then you can use Bilbao to UK. BUSBY.

First I’ve heard of ‘tourists’ being allowed 180 days in one hit.

From the article.

Are they all not supposed to abide by the rules ?

First thing that you should know, is that an overstayed visa never goes unnoticed. The immigration authorities have registered in their databases every person that enters and leaves the Schengen, and every overstaying, even just for a day, is recorded.
Secondly, intentional or unintentional, no overstaying is left unpunished. It could be a fine, immediate deportation or even getting banned from entering the Schengen Zone for a specific amount of time.
Finally, yet importantly, it does not matter if you have entered Schengen territory on a Schengen Visa, or if you are the national of a country, to which a visa waiver has been applied. You are not allowed to overstay the 90 days amount of permitted stay per 180 days, even if you belong to one of the latter. It does not also matter if you are overstaying a Schengen tourist visa or you are overstaying a student visa. There is a visa overstaying penalty for each, and if you do such thing, you will get yours.

If any of that was true then why are there so many unregistered people kicking about France. It would save the British tax payer millions being able to send them back.

That phrase must be somebody having a giraffe at foreigners.

If Spain does not assimilate Gibraltar then there will be a border and everything that goes with it.

Your avatar says it all....Remoaners never die.....they don’t even fade away ! They’ll have to come to terms with it one day though...otherwise they’ll lead a bitter and twisted existence for the rest of their lives....poor buggers.

How do they do that then 2 or 3 times in the last couple of years I've been waved through the passport check without having to hand my passport over.

I'm talking about recently not in the long distant past.
Anything before the 31st December 2020 will count as the past whether recent or long distant, things are about to change  ........it's what we voted for!:(

Because until the end of the Transition period UK Citizens have right of free movement.

The clock for 90 days in 180 days in Schengen will only start on 1st Jan 2021
