bill

Sound a bit strange that but good if win it ha

read the smallprint, it's not legally a raffle under the gaming act, hence the mis-spelling. It is a prize competition with the winner drawn at random. Barely legal and the website make a minimum 25% of all ticket sales

If something sounds to good to be true then it normally is.

Just gambling but with different types of prizes.

My biggest question - will the owner honour the prize if not all the tickets are sold... say less than 50% ?

Been a few abut doing this with houses, don’t think I have ever heard of someone winning the house normally raffle gets cancelled.

I could hold a raffle for my van, sell 5000 tickets at £10 a go.
Stop the raffle at 4000 sold and keep the van and give the drawn ticket holder £20 k as compensation, everyone's happy, yes?

Shh! Everyone will be doing this when they find out!

Sounds good but how do you tell 5000 people, that's where the Raffell web site comes in handy.

Morty Applebaum bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day. The next day, the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, but I have some bad news. The donkey died."

"Well, then, just give me my money back," said Morty.
"Can't do that,” replied the farmer. “I went and spent it already."

"OK, then. Just unload the donkey."
"What ya gonna do with him?"
"I'm going to raffle him off."
"You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"
"Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Morty and asked,
"Whatever happened with that dead donkey?"
"I raffled him off. I sold five hundred tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $998."

"Didn't anyone complain?" asked the farmer.
"Just the guy who won,” said Morty.

“So I gave him his two dollars back."

It's like the farmer who raffled his famously hard working donkey.

He didn't tell anyone it had died.

Everyone of the 100 £10 raffle tickets sold very quickly.

The draw was made, the winner, on going to collect his prize, found out that the donkey was dead.

"Cripes", said the farmer, "Sorry about that... here is your money back".

The 75% of all tickets sold rule is to stop this happening. It means that if the prize can't be delivered (i.e. its fallen off a cliff, or the donkey died), then the winner still gets a prize of similar value. However, it could also be used against the purchaser if invoked just because there weren't enough sales.

Raffall Guarantee

If the host fails to provide a prize, the winners will receive a share of the compensation amounting to 75% of all ticket sales.

So, it appears the motorhome doesn't actually exist.

Sorry...

It was a JOKE.

I believe there are some legal rules about raffles. I know it’s not legal to sell “50p each or £2 for strip of five” etc.
Pretty sure there will be plenty of illegality in this one of all kinds....

I remember from years back when on the committee of a large social club, we had to take legal advice. Our little raffle each week was fine as we only sold tickets (cloakroom ticket book) to members present on the day. However our big christmas prize draw needed a licence number and the tickets printed by a specialist. The gambling act 2005 applies now with much the same rules. Therefore these cons work on the word raffle, but instead use a contest in which any prospective participant has to answer a question etc to be included in the draw. The winner is drawn at random from those that gave the correct answer

In answer to the question of has anyone ever won a house in a raffle? yes but only the one years ago and there have been several raffles disappear just taking the monies with them. The 75% payout means that regardless of giving out "the advertised prize" the people rake in 25% of all sales for doing nothing.

The donkey example is not so much a joke as an ideal that these scammers want to emulate

Forget the raffle rules etc., why is the make and model not listed? Or did I miss it? Or is it a make with a bad reputation?

Autotrail Comanche, as shown in the video

There are some genuine companies out there. In November 2019 I won a BMW 1200GS motorbike ( got stolen last February). The company is called Revcomps and they raffle bikes, cars and motorhomes but they are genuine. Tickets are more expensive but the prizes have lower ticket numbers.
