Heading through germany havnt a clue

We've booked ferry Dover to Calais (£226 return 7m van thought was good price)
First stop over bruges Belgium then don't have a clue.
Away for 3 weeks and want to do romantic road but other than that looking for advice on scenic routs. Going to avoid tolls and motorways.
So come on guys let's hear your ideas and experiences

Just pick your time to get round Antwerp. Mind you, I don't think I have ever had an easy journey round there but if you can avoid the worst of the heavies it's slightly less unpleasant. Nor can you tell you what time times are OK. Unfortunately both trips in teh motorhome through Germany were on tight timescales so it was autobahns all the way.

We usually head down through Belgium with a night stop in Redu (twinned with Hay on Wye) then on to Luxembourg where we top up with cheap fuel and other essentials.
Trier on the Mosel is a short drive away and a good place to start in Germany.
When you do the romantic road, we advise arriving at the Aires in the morning before 11am, they are very busy and usually full by early afternoon. It can be entertaining later in the day watching the late arrivals trying to squeeze in!
On your first stop pick up the excellent Romantic Road English guide from the local Tourist Information office.

A trip along the Mosel is a good place to start. Lots of aires/ stellplatz along the route terminating at Koblenz where it meets the Rhine. Turn left up the "Romantic" route into Germany or Right going up the Rhine close to the French border.

This is the BEST advice on Germany you will get!!!

We’ve just come through Germany and it was busy, think of France, and Germany is a 100 times better

We’ve just had a couple of days on the Mosel. It was a bank holiday so pretty busy but getting quieter. It’s a lovely place to spend a few days, lots it Stellplatz, lots of wine tasting, great cycling. It’s a good introduction to Germany.

Folks on here a bit obsessed with Stellplatz
If you prefer camp sites or a mix of both?
There are loads and loads of nice camp sites to choose from.
I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with Stellplatz if thats your preference.
We have been over a lot of Germany but the Mosel is a good place to start.
Personally we like to spend two or three days at each stop and try to avoid long driving days.
If you are going July or August both campsites and Stellplatz, will fill up quickly.

I’m sorry Lenny a lot of the restaurants are now very poor but some are amazing we’ve been touring since1974 France Italy Germany Spain etc and Germany is light years ahead in sites roads scenery well kept old towns and the people always helpfull,I can’t say that for every other country.we can go to the factory more than helpfull,we have it serviced by people who care for over 27 years but each to his own for me Germany hits the spot.

Both Heidelberg and the museum at Spyer are well worth a visit.
We are thing we may revisit museum again this September and the town is also nice.
