On our recent trip to Ireland we had problems with the truma heating since our batteries were low. The problem was that our daily mileage was only 30 -50 miles for a lot of the time so the batteries were not getting enough charge. Was chatting to the mobile m'home engineer today who suggested that I fit a solar panel. He has quoted £750 to supply and fit 180w semi flexible Austrian panel (Am short of space on roof so will be on flat and curved section) with a schaudt lrm1218 solar regulator - needs this since I have a Schaudt Elektroblock PSU. This was more than I was expecting, is this a reasonable price.

An Lrm1218 is about £195 but only part of it, at least he is using the correct regulator. ?
That's too much in my opinion. A solar panel costs around Max £100 a good mppt controller £80ish, cables and connections £30 or so sikaflex say £15., that's tops 250 for parts, worst case fix would be 4 hrs tops. Get some more quotes, or buy the bits and go to a fun meet where folks will fit it all for you for a couple of drinks.

The reg is on ebay at £75......£675 for a panel and next to no labour is taking the piss.

That sounds quite high side also you don't need to use the lrm1218 you could fit a Votronic MMP 250 ( about £115).

You won't get a 180w panel for that.
Wants to do it the easy way so has to be either a Schaudt or Votronic regulator.
30 - 40 miles will put in a helluva lot more juice than a solar panel.

Would have to disagree, with the fridge on, I find the alternator puts next to nothing into the leisure batteries on my setup. Obviously a b2b would if I had one. Fortunately solar still works when you're moving.

The votronic regulator is far better. Think £600 for a good semi flexible and a votronic mpp and fitting would be about right

I think what Ditcha is trying to say in a self advertising sort of way is that HE has a LR1218 for sale at £35...... After upgrading to the LRM1218 as seen in a past post..

Yeah didnt make it clear Lenny HB I have upgraded to Votronic MPP250 after you keep banging on about them
so I have a LR1218 for sale in the classifieds

Early days yet Lenny HB seems much better on the bad days so far, but I trust in your endorsement, and I liked how it,s compatible with the Elektroblock

I’d have to say no, a decent 180 panel would be around £200, mounts about £25 and a Votronic MPPT around £120, so they are looking at a lot to fit it. As said, the Votronic will be better than the LRM1218.
Check Photonic Universe to get an idea of the parts prices then decided what you want to pay for fitting.
