We were travelling to the west of Rouen yesterday and needed to cross the Seine. There was a handy ferry from Berville-sur-Seine to Duclair, which we thought 'hang the expense' we'll try that. Monday to Friday it runs every 20 minutes apart from a lunch break. The river is tidal and wide at this point.

In advance I estimated the cost would likely be in the region of €10 - €15, so we had a handful of Euro ready to pay.
To our amazement it cost zilch, nada, nothing: it was FREE!
Oh, and the little town of Duclair was lovely and felt very much like a small seaside resort stretching out along the bank of the river.
I've heard of free ferries in parts of Scandinavia, but didn't know they existed in France. The last one we took from Royan across the mouth of the Gironde cost an arm and a leg.
So are there any other French fare-free ferries?
PS. Back home in the UK now, unfortunately, after another great continental adventure.
