Hi we are just buying an elegance 821 2010 model, do they have central locking and if so is it on both the hab door and the drivers or just the drivers door. The lights flashed but no locking or unlocking.

Just moving from a nexo family so this is a big jump. Any advice. We use our old camper for everything from wild camping to skiing

Many Thanks Matt

Weigh it to see if it has a practical payload before buying it...

No big deal not having central locking on an A Class as you only ever use the hab door apart from fuel stops. Lights probaly flash if there is an alarm fitted.

I think it just has the standard Fiat alarm fitted, payload is great at just under 1000kg but can always get it re-plated by V-tec as we did with our last van. Our Nexo has central locking but that is on a coachbuilt Transit Chassis.

Any tips or best mods for them?

We used to have the 821 2010 model, no it didn't have central locking. I think they started fitting central locking in 2012. Great van the only downside for us was the electric drop down bed when wilding or on Aires it used to flatten the batteries pretty quick. My answer to this was to start the engine. Apart from that the van was pretty good. Enjoy

Hi Matt we have the Elegance I800 single axle 2015. Pretty much the same as the 890 with Island bed. Hope this one is as good as our 821 was.

Matt have you looked into the windscreen cover on your insurance eg claims limit on the windscreen.

Hope you have many happy miles

Dill

Hi Dill , we are with comfort and they seem very good £3000 windscreen cover which i would hope would be enough.

What made you change?

Hi Matt, Kids stopped wanting come with us ect ect. That's why we downsized.

We had a windsceen in our 821 the cost of the screen was £1800 but AutoGlass Truck and Bus wanted to fit two new side trims as they said they usually break when removing them. This bumped the cost up to £2500. They did come already painted. I would imagine the cost maybe £3000 now or very nearly that amount.

We went with Safeguard this time as they have no claims limit on Windscreens.

If you havn't already, get a spare wheel and tyre. And one of these http://camperukonline.co.uk/product...eviews_id=4&osCsid=hkdb6j2fm7ha1offdbl65nj1l2

Hi the headlight flashing is nothing to do with alarms on a normal fiat van when the head lights are turned off it in tha day time if you pull the head light stork the head lights flash and the blue light on the dash board flashes like you do to flash a car to say it's safe to pull out or to let them know you are there .burstner a classes do not flash the head lights but the blue light on dash display still does the hand book does not tell you this and I think it's a safety issue

Hi sparky, sorry it's the indicators that flash when you press the lock / unlock botton key fob, never had a surge protector why do you need one

Hi Matt many repairers of these Elektroblocks say there is already built in protection for power surges/spikes. The problem I am told is if the 240v charger fails it as been known to spike the EBL to over 260v apparently this is the limit of the built in protection.

CamperUK have had many EBL's fail due to Surges/Spikes and recommend the Surge Protector. I was also told that Schaudt will only guarantee the EBL if their anti surge unit is fitted. It's well built and has a very fast response time. It also protects from under and over voltage.

For what they cost it's just piece of mind that's all, and that's why recommeded it to you.

I'm puzzled now. I was also under the impression that the Schaudt Electroblok (mine's a 220-2) contained spike protection. The surge protector shown in the link seems to have one input and two outputs and I assume it goes into the main supply lead between the hookup and the EBL. If that's right, how can it protect against a failure of the charger within the EBL itself?

Have I misunderstood something?
