Could be mistaken but think I remember reading that tag axle motorhomes were not welcome on some sites both here and abroad, if so why?

A general ban on tag axles in France was to keep the Itinerants off camp sites.. haven't heard of it in the UK.. and never had a problem when we towed a twin axle Lunar.. either here or abroad..[/QUOTE
Friends was told municipal sites only banning.

We've never had a problem , the only frustration is the class 4 on the French toll auto routes, but 'c'est la vie ' !!
We have only ever paid class 4 once on the auto route.. Always press the button & tell them that you are a "Camping Car"... They always reduce it to a class 2.. Happy days.. Try next time you are over there, you will be surprised. We've never had a problem , the only frustration is the class 4 on the French toll auto routes, but 'c'est la vie ' !!
Lifting Axle?

Whats wrong with PILKEYS ?I don't know, so can't really comment.. we used plenty of municipal sites
I'm guessing when they see you are not a pilky they don't apply the rule ..
Whats wrong with PILKEYS ?
Itinerants, cant abide them myself.apart from the spelling ?
other than that, did I say anything was wrong with them .. ?
Wish mine had that option Jim.now you mention it..
my twin axle Lunar Caravan had a lifting axle.. there were two hydraulic pistons on the front axle with a hydraulic hand pump in the gas locker only used it when I needed to manhandle it, made it easy to pull round on it's own length..
I think it was the only caravan ever to have this fitted

Even the twin axle mover struggles without a helping shoulder in tight turns.
