Fitting awning rail. (1 Viewer)

Hope to fit the rail for the drive away awning in the next day or two. The rail has a self adhesive backing and then you use self-tapping screws to fully secure it. Is it worth using some sort of sealant as well along the top and bottom of the rail? And if so, which sealant? Martin thinks frame sealant would do and I disagree!

I would have thought Silkaflex or similar, especially as you're going to be making holes in your van with the self tappers.

When I added an awning channel to our Autoquest I used ordinary frame sealant. Following subsequent advice from @Terry I would now use a polyurethane sealant such as Puraflex 40. I got some at Toolstation.

Puraflex 40, that's all, NO screws,. I have a roll-up awning fitted permanently.
Been on four years so far.

Ours is Sikaflex 512.

Puraflex is on order. It's coming from a branch in Scotland to an address in Scotland but they won't deliver on Monday as it an English bank holiday. grrrrrrrr

Just one thing to watch out for - I'm assuming it is the 3 piece rail like This One - is to mount the pieces the right way, with the shaped ends at the ends

Just checked and two rails do have shaped ends which he (and I) may have missed.
