I've concluded that it is female as it keeps coming back to the mirror and is showing no sign of agression.

That last one is a gorgeous photo... (y)

Well I was wrong it is a male. It has been coming back at very regular intervals so I moved the gum tree nearer the mirror. It did not take long before repeated attacks but hard to fight your reflection and of course each time they got to the top of the mirror he was alone. He stands perplexed pearing down the back thinking WTF?
To his surprise tho every time he goes back to the plant pot he is there again.

I may need to clean my glasses but it looks like the late Liberal MP Cyril Smith. Reincarnated? If so, shoot it or it'll be interfering with next year's nestlings.

Breakfast! Picked outside the van 5 minutes ago - for scale, the big flat ones are the size of an open hand!!!
I wish I knew how to tell for sure whether mushrooms are edible. Last year and this year we had some grow in our back garden. They looked and smelled like edible field mushrooms but we didn't dare try them without being sure and don't know anyone with knowledge to ask.

Fortunately - the farmer who owns the site did say they were edible(y)

Apparently - if they look and smell like 'shop' ones they generally are - but I'm no expert so please don't take my word for it:eek:

If we get some more next year, Dave, I'll give you a shout and you can send your farmer to check them

I've got a couple of foraging books that are very good but you still have to be careful. Sometimes the only thing that separates a harmless one from a poisonous one is the time of year when you find it. Bottom line is if you aren't sure don't risk it.

This one is good:

We bought a book on foraging too. No pictures in it whatsoever! Pretty useless when you want to know if something will harm you
