Continuing our quest to find Monsieur Beechings old railway lines for pleasant cycling we found this one which follows the Semoy river from Montherme on the Meuse up to Les haute rivieres.
It follows the river the majority of the route and a very very gentle incline until after Thilay a couple of Kms it goes up. I mean up. Directly up at 18% for about 500 m.
No doubt it went down again but at that stage having actually managed to cycle up it the thought process of going down then turning round and coming back up have in to just turning round so we think we made it as far as just past Naux.
With the exception of this monster hill it was extremely pleasant and very well used.
First couple of Kms of la trans-Semoysienne are through a delightful park and then a couple of weird. No viaducts or tunnels but the shade of the trees was most welcome on a 27c day.
Great views from a bridge and there was a grotte lavoir just before Thilay worth the 20 m walk to taste the water coming out of the mountain.
We stayed at Bogny Sur Meuse for 4. 80 for 2 of us but leccy was about 2 euros for 24 hours.
We believe it is the same price at montherme however to the extra space afforded you allowed you to seat out and awning out if wanted. It adds 4.5 Kms to your journey but that was a good price to pay for not feeling like a sardine.

2.20 euros for beer at the end by the bridge was helpful.
Will add to the voie vert thread when I can

Thanks for this. Really appreciate this information.
We've been using some of the voies verte and generally enjoyed them. I liked most the towpaths beside canals, they were a bit cooler in the intense heat.
Have you had any problems on the voies verte?
We were recently on one near Castelsarrasin and there were two motorbikes/mopeds. They were going fast and taking up a lot of the voie width.
Near to Mazamet we were on the voie verte, which was well used. There was a runner with two loose dogs running up to 20m ahead of or behind their owner. When they came to tunnels they ran straight in. It would have been very difficult to see them in the dark.
Both of these behaviours are entirely against voie verte rules.

We haven't come across anything near to what you have witnessed. I remember a 50 cc motorbike Tring to hammer it in the opposite direction on one of them but there was loads of space.
Today we must have met 2 coach parties all approaching the mountain stage and wanting the whole of the path. I started dealing with by turning my lights on with very little effect but pulling over 2/3 over on my side and just stopping caused them to think about it. But these are all individuals and I doubt my ignorance in dealing with did little more than give me a bit of personal satisfaction.

Pictures of your voie vertes ?

Ought to put the link in to some other disused railway lines we have made threads on
They all appear in here

Drei-lander route ? Goes to Trier from Aachen.
I must admit to thinking there was one made it to France from monschau or Aachen.

Vennbahn, 125km from Belgium through Germany ends in Luxembourg. Looking forward to the photos 😁😁

We overnighted at the CCP Aire at Fumay on the Meuse last night. There were quite a few cyclists riding by on the riverbank path.
A short walk along the Quai showed why....

Interesting old town with a lot of the older buildings in slate.

Some nice riverside houses and a very austere looking church..
