Im a newbie
Re loose? Battery, I too had to find 10mm packing piece to go between top of battery and clamp. Actually 2 pieces. One each side. Never had them before and new battery same make and type and size as battery removed. Was old battery secured properly, I,ll never know.......

I ended up putting some thick foam padding between the bracket and the top of the battery.

The new battery is significantly longer than the old one. I did only a rudimentary check on the height but when I did that it looked the same ...

Haven't a clue to be honest but I fiddled and faffed for blooming ages and the foam was the best solution that I could come up with. Can soon change it for something else though. (y)(y)

Oh and I too will never know .

As a by the by, I use a spare battery with a pair of thin 'jump leads' hooked to the two terminals when I change a vehicle battery, thereby keeping a 12v supply to said terminals when I take them off the old battery
Saves resetting clocks and radio etc etc

Cig socket is dead without ignition on and a battery to operate the canbus

That's what i use in my van x244, i take it the x250 doesn't have a permanent live socket then, it also came in handy changing the battery on my bmw. essentially the same as what can be bought in the shops but home made.

Neither the preface lift Pug/ Ducato nor the 250 has a permanent live socket,.. unless it has been rewired which,, thinking about it, might not be a bad idea :)

X244 also has a dead cig socket unless it's been modified.
Date & time takes only a couple of minutes to reset on x250 anyway

It was the one on the left circled in green, as opposed to the one on the right in blue that is definitely switched. will have been me that modified it because if i had two sockets in the dash i wouldn't want them both switched, for flexibility if nothing else.

Hi Techno
not suggesting you change anything, simply joining in with the chat of the couple of guys that posted before me. also don't mean to take your thread off topic.

Great thread, thanks Andy
Changed my battery today for a Varta I1 [Fiam battery removed]
Looks like my 2007 Ducato had the original battery in, didn't keep the power on during change as my change over battery failed during the procedure, so in effect no power for 5 mins
First power up got an amber spanner and check oil but that cleared itself second start
However I did find a toblerone shaped wedge in the bottom of the battery tray which had to be removed, the varta battery is slightly longer
It pops out with a flat screw driver underneath it

Is there a technical name for the red plastic doobree? Mine is broken and Google doesn't know what a doobree is.::bigsmile: Thank you!

I think the red doobree is only there to secure \ stop the multi-terminal adapter from "spinning" on the battery terminal. Assuming this is the case any bit of rigid plastic cut to shape may suffice.

One side of mine has an extended bit like a rawlplug - this is the bit that's split as well as the whole thing being in two pieces - so the screw doesn't actually tighten up. Nevermind, I'll ask at the garage. Thanks for your reply, and for the original post, most helpful.

I have a sneaking suspicion the doobree is part of the whole multi way terminal and can't be purchased separately but hopefully your garage can sort you out. How about trying a local scrapyard for a Ducato van. Maybe has something similar?

Hard to believe it's almost 8 years since fitting that battery. Well it's now ready for scrap.
A new one of the same make and spec has cost £115.62 inc delivery from Tanya
Gets 8 years out of his battery and moans that it's went up in price by £24!
