Hi bit of a newbie and my 1st time to camp with more EHU so I need to know apart from turning on the switch on fridge to 12v while driving do I need to press any buttons on the control panel of my MH? Eg the car or caravan button??

no, as long as your 12v switch is on thats it.
You may also have and "auto" where is will switch itself from gas to ehu to 12v depending on the set up

When you are driving ,usually the 12v system switches off except for the fridge. When you stop for any length of time not on ehu then you need to turn your fridge to gas.

When the engine is running the trigger to switch to 12v is from the alternator. The 12v itself is from the starter battery so should be entirely auto if switched to 12v. Fringe Panel lights should show it working.

True for UK converters. Continental ones usually leave their 12v habitation systems on when driving.?

Some fridges are entirely manual power selection, and you need to switch to the 12V position to run from 12V. Others have Automatic Energy Selection (AES) and will switch to 12V as soon as the engine starts, then back to gas/240V when the engine stops. In that case there is a safety delay of about 15 minutes to avoid the gas firing up when you stop to refuel.

For both types, AES or Manual, there is a relay (electrically operated switch) that switches on the 12V supply from the starter battery/alternator as soon as the engine starts and the alternator is producing power. When the engine stops, it cuts off, to avoid accidentally draining the starter battery.

As above. It depends on what fridge you’ve got. On mine I select what I want it powered by. 12v, 240v, or gas. Same button each press go through to the next option.
