Campervans at Glencoe Mountain Resort - We would like to thank the campervans who have been booking to stay in our 4 official bays over the last few weeks and those who have heeded our advice not to just pitch up in the car park. We really appreciate all you folks doing things responsibly.

However over the last few weeks we have seen an increasing number of vans just pitching up into the car park. Some are being responsible and are completely self contained and not using our facilities however most are using our toilets, showers, waste disposal, water points and dumping large volumes of waste. While we don't recommend people just pitching up at the moment we have been operating with a light touch and not chasing people away as we appreciate how difficult it can be for people to find a space to stop over at the moment. What would be appreciated though is that people would use our contact tracing app to register there visit and pop a donation in the boxes sited around the car park. Despite around 100 vans just pitching up over the last few weeks and a suggested donation of £5 for use of our facilities donation boxes yielded just £15.

Most campervan owners are brilliant and very welcome however there seems to be a minority at the moment who are threatening to spoil it for everyone.

Yes.l saw this posted on Facebook absolutely shocking and sums up how few actually pay even a small amount, additionally, this information goes out to the locals and feeds the fire of Motorhomes not being welcome.

Are they going to increase their woefully inadequate MH parking capacity then? I'm sure 99% of people won't mind paying £5 a day parking.

You can expand as much as you want if people cannot accept that when a place if full it is full, meaning go elsewhere, it won't solve a thing.

It would seem that they do mind / object to paying :

Unfortunately we are now facing an influx of total idiots adding to the minority we already have.
I'm ashamed to say after nearly 40 years of motorhoming its becoming an embarrassment to have this fantastic hobby.
I'll never understand why certain brain dead campers are ruining what was once a great way to relax and travel. The future for our lifestyle is very bleak and I don't think rules, signs or words will bring it back to how it once was.

So the people that don't contribute, are they freeloaders??????
We would gladly contribute for the convenience. A tenner is hardly going to bankrupt you, but not contributing could bankrupt the site, then where will the freeloaders go.

Yes they are freeloaders, the something for nothing, I'm entitled, it's my right, blah blah, brigade that are increasingly giving ALL motorhome users an extremely negative image.

I was thinking if they put 100 official bays in at £5 most would pay it 👍

I wonder why we can't persuade local authorities to fund more free Aires just like the ones closing down across France?

The arguments on here for them sound amazing! Conscientious campers, leaving only footprints and tens of thousands of pounds in the local economy!

LOL, put your fishing rod away Eddie.

I would like to see a trial aire somewhere popular and make a decision on the result.

There are only four official bays (with ehu, I believe), but you can park anywhere on the huge car park & and many do! It’s clearly signed that there is an honesty box, & given the remote location & facilities, £5 is very cheap!

Wear a badge and go and knock on their cab door and shame them into paying, maybe they will get the hint that all things cost and just because they have bought a camper doesn’t mean that the end of the spend.

How many of us have stayed on an aire and been quite happy to fork out a few Euros to someone who walks round and gives an official receipt?

With 100 MHs being asked for £5, that's £500: enough to pay the wages of someone who might otherwise be "let go" or simply struggling to find a job in the Highlands.

I know, I know, I know: the FLTs would drive off and come back later. So they only collect £300 pw: still a reasonable wage IMO.

And it is a lovely place to stop!

I would happily pay £5, one small issue at the moment is that cash is not being used in many places Card payment is preferred. So it may well be people do not have Cash on them. A 3D bar code could take someone to an online pay point and you could collect the money that way. Stripe or some thing like Eola would take the payment for you. (on the dark side you could get a private parking company to take payment for you)

The slight, slight problem with your reasoning is assuming you'd get such affluence most days of the year. Of course that is far from being the case. There is a reason this is called peak season.

The best cure to incivility is education. The second best cure is fines.

One BIG problem, the objectors who take our yearly subscriptions then charge us extortionate site fees. They are are so called friendly clubs.
