Hi - I'm trying to extend the wire on some solar lights so that I can put the panel somewhere higher. I tried adding some speaker cable but I suspect it's not 'fine' enough to carry the 1.2v to the lights. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the wire that I need? I looked on Amazon and Screwfix but sometimes you need to use the 'right word'!

Thanks!

Speaker cable should be good... unless there are thousands of LEDs 😊

Speaker cable should be be OK. I don't know what you mean about 'fine' enough.
The original wire is only a few strands in diameter, the speaker cable (although not much more than door bell wire) is three or four times thicker. It's not working so I'm thinking that the tiny voltage isn't travelling down the thicker cable. The connections are good so I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't be working. 🤷‍♂️

Thicker cable will make it easier for the current to flow.

The issue might be that the hair thin wires are coated. It can be a pain to get the coating off to make a connection to them.

Don’t forget led’s are polarity conscious??

You may need to check that you have not crossed the wires over, LEDs have to be wired the right way round. They only work in one direction.

Bessy567 beat me to it and put it more succinctly

Reverse polarity will cook a LED if it hasn't been protected by a diode.
I suggest you check that the 'light' still works with the original connections.
