This morning, drove off in the rain and found that my wiper unit on my Citroen Relay will only work on the fast setting or if I use the wash and hold the stork switch on. No other settings work, I am hoping it’s just a fuse, has anyone got any ideas before I go to the garage and possibly get stung.

Probably the motor or connection to the motor, but also worth checking the wiper multifunction switch,

How old is the van ? I'm thinking it may be the contacts in the stalk switch that have worn out (the two functions that are working are also the least used ?) Do one of those online vehicle breaker searches and see if you can get a second hand unit, I had to do that for the indicator stalk on my '05 Renault.

On a previous car I had a similar problem,it was in the motor ,there was a copper/ brass contact arm that rides over button contacts to acuate the various wiper settings.the arm had lost its tip ( worn through and snapped off) I soldered on an additional piece and it was ok for the next few years .
Just to add ,I doubt it's s fuse if one setting is working the rest should, fusewise.

On our fiat the cruise control packed up and evidently it’s common and it was a whole unit replacement, may be the same for the wipers ?

I would go with wiper relay as being the problem. Think they might be within the wiper motor casing :)unsure:) and may not be accessible. If they are sticking maybe a hard tap on the motor casing might clear it?

If you do need to replace the whole lot I think this is it here https://coastalmotorhomes.co.uk/fia...ont-rhd-wiper-motor-magnet-marelli-06-gt.html but they're out of stock. Coastal are very helpful and might be worth a call to Nick to discuss.

ps think Coastal give a 10% discount to Funsters.

From the above website

1.. The windshield wiper blades have one speed

One of the quickest indicators that a problem exists with the intermittent wiper relay is when the wipers are not intermittent and only work at one speed. The relay switch sends an electrical signal to the module that controls the operation of the wiper motor and gears inside. When the relay is faulty, the windshield wipers will only work at the same speed that the last relay signal was sent. In layman's terms, if you had your windshield wipers on the slow speed the last time they were active, and you turn them on again under a different setting, the relay switch should send that updated information to the module. If you make a change in the settings and the wipers don't react, it's most likely due to a malfunction in the intermittent wiper relay.

Motor is working on one setting but not the others.
I know, I read your post. I had the same on my Fiat and still needed a new motor and I had the old one returned. Just relaying my experience so I hope it's not that. 🌝

Thanks, I think you may be right, just called at my garage and without looking he says it will be the motor ! Going back later for him to take a proper look, not going to be cheap

A new wiper relay will only cost around £15

Van plugged into diagnostics and code is showing faulty switch but my mechanic wants to talk to Citroen to save having to strip steering wheel and stalk assembly instead of a quick motor or relay exchange. Will keep anyone interested posted.

To change the relay will take 30 mins tops. And is the cheapest option . Plus you could always give it a knock to see if it has just jammed up.

From a search
Ducato 2.8 2005 WIPERS
Fault is: No operation on intermittent, works normally speed one,
Suggested Tests

1. Check fuse F43 (15A Blue) at LH end of bottom row in LH cab fusebox. This fuse supplies the column switch unit, probably the electronics.
were other suggestions but this was the fault.
Note this refers to an older model without bcm or canbus
So with #17 this is probably totally worthless to OP.

Garage has spoken to Citroen they said, remove motor and check voltages coming from switch, if they vary switching from 1 to 3 then its motor, if not its switch or relay, NO switches or relays in UK or France until March !! Motor, I can get off ebay for £105 Citreon want £290 !, either way not going to be a cheap job.:xangry::xangry::xangry::xangry:

Right then, motor ordered and delivered today, it arrived complete with the wiper arms and fitting bracket assembled and a rubber cover that covered the motor and Electronics which is not fitted on the existing motor suggesting that water may be a cause of the failure. Part £202 +vat fitting £35. Told Dee no Chanel No 5 for Christmas 🤪🤪🤪
