We would like to go to the Almeria area for two to three months in winter.Aim to be there For the Christmas period .Please any recommendations for a campsite in the area .We have a dog and are not bothered about being near a beach but would like some Spanish bars and Restuarants nearby.

Kind regards

There is an Aire at Almerimar with all you could wish. Bars and restaurants within 100 metres. Hot showers and toilets, a sea view and supermarket (Mercadonna) within 200 metres. It is on the coast about 15 miles south west of Almeria. It is not a campsite, there are plenty in the area but it is a worthy place to be for a few nights at around €10 a night with electricity if you wish and wifi too.

We stayed in Almeria in March but to be honest it was quite depressing. The weather was awful so that didn't help but the 'ACSI' sites were €18 without electric, so not following ACSI rules. Lots of long term caravanners over wintering there, so you may get a better deal long term

We much preferred The Algarve - better weather, much cheaper and people seemed a lot happier! (y)

I have researched that area a lot as we are moving to spain later in the year.
I think it will be fairly quiet off season - Mojacar and Vera Playa are the main 'resorts' but not sure what they're like in the winter. Have friends who go to Cabo de Gata every year and love it there.
Almeria seems to be the forgotten province - not a lot there, bit of a dust bowl, and although the houses are cheap that's for a reason!!
Appreciate that's not applicable to motorhomes, but for a 'snowbird' break your really can't compete with Beni!
(.......not that I'd live there - be dead in a month!!!!) great for winter tho !
If you want to go south - look at the Atlantic coast west of Gib.
We have decided on the area east of Malaga to live, Axarquia/Granada borders. Can't help with campsites - but know every villa for sale in the area lol!
That's my penny worth anyway!

Camping Roquetas .. close to Almeria ..

Google map of site https://www.google.com/maps?q=Roque...quetas+de+Mar,+Almería,+Andalucía,+Spain&z=17

spent a winter there 2006-7 .. very popular with snow birds.. close to town and beach.. nice walk along the prom

Weather in this part of Spain is better than the Algarve.. which is on the Atlantic .. while we we there campers where arriving from Portugal looking for the sun..
they shot the spaghetti westerns in this part of Spain.. .. so it is very dry even in winter ..
