Hi All!
Happy New Year!

Im looking for suggestions for a campsite for a few trial weekends in February- appreciate not the best time of year!
Im based on the Essex/London border and happy to travel 1-2hrs max for some weekends away in the Hymer - looking for unique suggestions. Preferably near to a pub but still a nice site.

Hi and welcome to the Fun site. May I suggest the New Forest in Hampshire. Good run down should be ok. Good place to trial all your gear as the only site open all year is Setthorns which doesn't have any facilities. Hard standing with or without EHU and s great place to explore. A fair walk 2-3 km is Sway with pubs.

Sounds lovely - was hoping for a slightly closer pub especially if raining.. ! Any in the Essex/Norfolk area?

We are regulars at the C&CC site at Thetford Forest, which is open all year round. Good facilities and shop and the forest is right on your doorstep. Nearest pub is the Eagle in Great Hockham about a 15 minute walk away, mind you we've never actually tried it!

The CL site at Mildenhall is nice and only a 10 min walk into Mildenhall town center. The site is not far off the A12 so probably not much more than an hour travel for you. Only ehu, water, grey and black waste available on site so you will get to fully trial your Motorhome.

Yes, we quite often stay on this site when visiting family in that neck of the woods. You must walk very fast to get to town in 5 minutes though :) Also quite handy for Hertford East (or North) station for trains to London.

Brighton CC is open all year, 10 min walk to marina or 30 min walk to main area.

We've just come back from here. Link Removed Nice site £17.50 a night. Real ale pub with reasonably priced food at the entrance to the site and Slimbridge Wetland Centre within easy walking distance. Only problem may be a bit further than you want to travel.

Ferry Meadows, great place to experiment and try out new van and three pubs within a short walk - you pass one of them as you drive in....
