Hi everyone hope someone can point me in the right direction, I'm looking for a windscreen solar panel to keep my van battery charged, would like to hard wire it in, if possible leave it in place, is there such an option cheers in advance for any help regards Chris

How are you going to drive with a solar panel fixed across the windscreen?

Hi, l bought a small 10w solar panel off ebay, for 10quid, its only about 18 inches wide and 10 inches high, fixes with suction cups and is on the inside of my windscreen, hard wired it to my starter battery and keeps the battery topped up over winter.

I assume you not have any solar panels on your ‘van……..?
If not, why not get one fitted so that you can charge the leisure battery as well……..or would that not be practical?

Best to get a big one on the roof with a Votronic Duo controller that will also maintain the starter battery 👍

I put a 5w panel in the car windscreen during lockdown and without a controller on successive sunny days the battery voltage went up too high, but if I fitted a controller, on dull days the controller used more power than the panel made.

When you consider the upper half of the Van windscreen is useless as glass - a Thin PV film is an excellent solution but does have challenges of fixation and wire ways back to the inverter when used as a permanent fixture. Have used these on industrial roofs over the last few years. They are more expensive that trad panels and would suggest go for fixed panel for now.
