Advice please...this is my first thread!
Local body/crash repair garage very efficient......inspected two stone chips in windscreen of my Hymer E 690 during a service.
Impressed with their efficiency, after he took my insurance details and resulted in replacement being funded by the insurance, and even had a text saying I would have to pay the 75 excess.
Me ...happy chappie.
Booked in yesterday, and casually mentioned that of course, you will be using a new rubber seal? The old one has evidence of sealant glue, and aging...it is a 1995 model.
Consternation...looked into the VERY large box as delivered from Hymer. It is not included. I plan to be off to Spain for two months on Saturday. He doesn’t want me to leave it for that long. I suggested he sends the screen back and we forget about it. He can’t...he’s paid for it! WHAT? Should that be my problem?

I left with my Hymer! I am trapped....if I do nothing, that screen will no doubt last me out! His super efficiency has backfired on me !
Question.....am I right in insisting on installation with a new rubber seal..I would have thought it was the norm....???

Welcome to the fun. :welcome4:

I've no specialist knowledge of windscreen replacement but on a vehicle of that age it does seem logical to replace the rubber.
I think your right to insist on it.
Hopefully you will be able to enjoy your trip and have the screen done on return. This should give them time to get the part (y)

Go for a compromise, get it fitted with the old rubber on the understanding that you want it changed for the new rubber when you return from your hols.

Do not replace without a new seal . We had the same on our N & B Arto a few years ago had a stone chip repair and advised by Autoglass that a new screen needed , two guys from Dorset turned up after a week and replaced the screen in our drive . Our Moho went inside a Barn for storage in the summer and we left for Spain in October , on the way down I started to see water dripping from the bottom of the radiator but it did not seem to be overheating or using water , when we finally reached our destination I found that the old rubber seal at the top corner had shrunk (2004 vehicle) , when I peeled back the seal water started running and was coming down inside the engine bay and the noise insulation sponge on top of the engine bay was soaked and dripping on to the radiator . I found a guy in Spain who resealed for me €150 euros .
If I had my time again I would have lived with the chip and not bothered with a chip repair until it was necessary , I currently have had a small chip for two years it’s not a problem yet .

Not worth the risk having it fitted with the old seal, insist on a new seal he will have to wait until you are back. His problem for not ordering the seal.

Would this be what you need, not cheap but available

Windscreens using a rubber seal are never supplied with them. If it's any help my (not vast and relating to classic cars) experience is that with sealant cleaned off and a bath of hot water & detergent the seal will be indistinguishable from a new one.

The man fitting and guaranteeing the job is the best judge of that,
the Insurance wont pay for a new seal unless it is damaged or deemed unsuitable for a refit by the fitter,
That point will have been assessed at 1st inspection for obvious reasons, screens do not come with seals

Usually you would find your insurance company will stipulate their own windscreen repair co!
Repairs of stone chips free and an excess or around £75-£100 is the norm.

The seal will be in the excess shirley?
