Not Long Enough...!!
Well we have sadly upgraded to a new Laptop with Windows 10. So used to XP and can get away with 8. But 10 is a new kettle of fish.

Looking at the Web on how you change and use 10, But nothing seems to relate in what we have on ours.

So Who are the Whizzkids who we can annoy with many questions on here.

And of course you'll soon have the delights of Windows 11.

Personally I have no idea as for some strange reason Wn11 won't install on my machine even though all the blurb says it will!

I dislike windows, but hate everything with a passion since 7. Luckily I am linux based now so not really an issue.

However, I do have a separate hard drive with windows on for when I play World of Warcraft with my family during holiday seasons.

Other than the usual stuff I hate about windows I really hate the new start menu. However, there is a solution.

Look up Classic Shell and this returns you to a windows 7 style start menu.

I'm a real Luddite and hate change, but W10 just does what it says on the tin.

Windows 11 won't play on older machines even though 10 will. My PC is a high spec and only about 4 years old and came with windows 10 but windows 11 compatibilty checker says No!

The issue is probably due to either your machine not having a TPM chip or having an unsupported CPU, I suspect it's due to a lack of TPM chip as I have successfully installed Win 11 on a PC with a 6 year old CPU. If you really want to try 11 then there are numerous articles on how to install on unsupported hardware by making registry changes.

To be honest Microsoft are going to support Windows 10 until Oct 2025 so if you don't need to upgrade why bother, in 4 years time it will probably be be time to upgrade the PC itself.

I've already decided that 10 is no bother.

Laptops…. Steam engines, I have an iPad Pro it’s there instantly when I need it, no maintenance at all..😎

My machine is a fairly high spec gaming rig, less than two years old. I've checked the MS info and the compatability checker said no problem with Win 11 - yes I've got a TPM chip. Windows Update keeps telling me Win 11 will run fine and actually once gave me the option to install which I tried. It goes through all the installation processes then reverses all the changes it has made. I did follow up a fault report which suggested one or more of my USB connected devices (I've got a few) was the problem so when I've got a couple of hours to waste I'll try stripping it down to the minimum and try again. It has also been suggested to me by someone far far more computer savvy than me that a clean install rather than an update may be better - there is an option from MS to do that so it will be next on my list.

However Win 10 works fine so as MS say it is being supported until 2025 and nobody has given me a compelling reason to upgrade I'll just carry on with what I've got - it works fine!
