WILL IT START?

Engineer friend famously says

'No diesel will fail to start when I am present' and so far he has proved right, but then if you have compression and fuel what else is needed?

He omitted that a charged battery is a prerequisite . . . :giggle:

Unless he was cranking it by hand :giggle:

On a modern one loads of electronics, the old ones were very robust too much electronics on the new ones.

It's an old Bedford CF , so yeah it will start , no fancy electronics fitted . Charge the battery , new fuel , bleed the system and a wiff of ether , and it will go . Smoke a bit though ! .

Actually , thinking about it , it could possibly have a petrol engine ? . Bit more effort with that one , but it will still start .

as said above its a Bedford CF, I look after our DIL ice cream van that is a 1970 Bedford CF with the OHC petrol engine.

Well it passed its last MOT.....in Aug 2013.
One or two advisories though.

  • Offside Front Brake pipe modified but not seriously weakened (3.6.A.3)
  • Nearside Rear Parking brake: parking brake efficiency only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.B.7)
  • Nearside Rear Service brake: service brake efficiency only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.B.7)
  • Rear Brakes imbalanced requirements only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.B.5b)
  • Both front coil springs slightly corroded.Offside front shock absorber slightly corroded. Both rear shock absorber bush slightly deteriorated and slight play.
  • Nearside front upper ball joint dust cover slightly damaged.Offside front upper ball joint slight play.Bonnet starting to corrode. Both front inner wheel arch slightly corroded.
I just can't see the battery having that much charge after two years untouched and, at least, two year old diesel.

A friend shoehorned a Vauxhall Cresta 3ltr straight 6 into a CF van with a ZF gearbox..... It was quick.

Ppppop , these bloody vans had all kind of motors lumped in . Transits were the favourite with the CF coming up a close second . Everything from stock to v8's , even small block chevy;s . Biggest i can remember was a 5.7 . Back axle was normally the same though , Jag . Often the Xj series .

So it was a diesel , was it . Inner wings could be an issue , they be like hens teeth now .

That's what i meant with a little more work . Dunno what it was with the Bedford , but your right . The company i worked for , had tranny's . Straight and vee , both started with ease , mind you they were Ford . Bedford was never really that popular .

By the way , love the tag

I wonder what happened to it. Surely it deserves a bit of love?
