So far I've just carried on as normal, but £2 per litre, thats painful, and it's forecast for later this year
I had planned to go to Spain or maybe Croatia in September, but now I'm wondering if staying more in France might be a better idea to save some diesel money ?
But on the other hand, I suppose an additional £300 - 400 for the trip is very annoying but probably not out of the question.
And what about the wider economy, this is going to have such a devastating effect on everything and everybody.
Thoughts .....

Don't see much option it's either stump up if you can afford it or alter your plans. We're going to France next month it won't stop us but we're lucky and can afford it. I think the government ought to do the same as Germany and reduce train and bus fares.

Probably we will either travel less or be more thrifty with dinners out. Can’t cut back on sites or aires as we rarely use them unless abroad.

I just can't believe people's driving styles haven't altered yet, so it can't be hurting too much.

I have deliberately slowed down a bit in both vehicles and keep a light right foot when accelerating. Too many Chelsea tractors roaring past and driving rather aggressively. We are old enough to remember the fuel shortages and rocketing price in the early 70's when most drivers learnt how to drive very economically. Not so this time.

We won't be cutting back very much on the miles we travel, but we will be allowing more journey time so we can travel at a more leisurely pace & get a few more mpg. I have just bought a new Honda Jazz hybrid & that is proving to be very economical around town and locally. I regularly see trips returning 75+ mpg, average since new is 67 mpg and it still hasn't reached 1000 miles yet.

Better planning.

Look at your bank balance , look at your age , make a decision, you can't take it with you, spend it before it's too late if you've got it.

How much is the cheapest ½ decent hotel with breakfast £150 a night , you've still got to get there and buy lunch & an evening meal.

Motorhoming is still cheap even at £10 a gallon

I know a guy that sub contracts for a big parcel company , he's spending an extra £40 a week on fuel , they haven't increased the rate he's paid at all , it's a bad time to be in road transport.

We would not alter our plans because of diesel costs.

Mainly because of my age, maybe limited years of MHoming left, and the fact that I could drive several times around the world on remaining capital, so the governments can whistle up their ........

Anyway next trip looks like being cancelled because of Mothers deteriorating situation.

Anybody else noticed the lack of reporting of these falsely high fuel costs, we are being conditioned to accept these prices as the norm now, and the government continues to rake in Fuel Duty and VAT on top of that, tax on a tax, surely that is illegal. makes the 5p cut a total farce, as we never saw it at the pumps

It's true that the current high price of diesel is hurting, but to try and do the various places we go to by using a car and hotel rooms would be more expensive I'm sure.

We treat the MH as a mobile hotel room, maybe not as comfy as some, but certainly customised to be exactly what we require. Therefore it's cheaper than a hotel room, so only the transportation costs car v MH become an issue. So the fuel costs are maybe 40% more expensive this year compared to 3 years ago ? What proportion increase is that on the overall holiday cost ? Maybe 10% - 15% ?

We paid £2.05 a litre at a service station just off the m40. Only £25 put in to get us to tesco for £1.79. Hated paying it but needs must. Bread with no butter for the rest of the week 😁
Yes we will pay it because we have to, its not going to curtail our adventure called life.

Some of my longer trips may not happen, but I'm actually using the van more this year. After two family deaths just prior and during Covid, plus another family member having surgery, I want to get out and do while I can.
I set a fuel budget and I'm so far keeping within it, but this month may be tricky for various reasons. Last weekend I saw two garages at £1.99.9 per litre... My Jubilee 4 night trip away in the van cost about £40 per day all in (no site fees) so it's still a very economical way for me to travel. Although this coming weekend it's likely to be around £90 for one night away. It obviously depends on when, where, site/accomm costs etc etc.
When I bought the van my plan was to aim to use it for at least two w/e per month (I'm still working f/t). I still aim for that, but now one of the month's trips may be closer to home. Which isn't a bad thing as it means I look for interesting things to do nearer, and don't fall into the trap of always going to the same areas/places. Just prior to the last lockdown I went away to a village which is only 15 miles from home, and had a really enjoyable time.

Interesting article in the Telegraph this morning showing how price of a litre of fuel is made up

Petrol: Wholesale 78p, Biofuel 12p, delivery & oil company 1.7p, retailer margin 3.5p, duty 53p, VAT 29.7p

Diesel: Wholesale 69p, Biofuels 18.9p, delivery & oil company 2.1p, retailer margin 11.2p, duty 53p, VAT 30.8p

So more profit for retailers on diesel…..

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask !!
Filled car up this morning at Tesco, £1.82.9 / ltr
Just filled MH ready for a trip away, £1.89.9 / ltr
7p / ltr rise in one day, and the same stock of fuel

That's profiteering and robbery of the people by fuel companies and government, plus the crime of adding VAT on top of fuel duty, tax on a tax. disgusting, we all need to flood our MP's with letters complaining about this

No, not at . If you see my explanation linked lower down.

Along with….

We have had motorhomes that were just shy of £100,000.

Our current motorhome was worth around £26,000 when we bought it for just £13,500. So we have a lot of leeway for fuel costs.

Broken Link Removed

My neighbours lease (rent) two cars at a cost of around £1200 a month. Mostly for a 5 & 12 mile commute. Well, there are standards and statuses to keep up.

I think it's the way it's headed. It did make me laugh a bit when they said there going to investigate and name and shame companies not passing on the 5p reduction as the increase in the vat take is now way higher than 5 p a litre so the government are in effect still raising more.

What is "bio fuel in the equation? Sounds like "sundries" on a garage bill or "other taxes" on an energy bill. Just scamming.

They did here and still do. Any not passing on the discount or raising prices prior to, a straightforward 5 or 6 figure fine/s.

My take would be just to eat a couple more meals in the van. That would easily save the increased fuel costs with the completely daft unrealistic prices pubs etc. want to charge of or a beer and a burger 😊😊

Coming back through Austria, Germany, and Belgium to get the DFDS ferry last Wednesday diesel is well over €2 a litre already. Many places all across Europe showing very little difference between petrol and diesel now.

Like the UK, the motorway services are a total rip-off.

E10 unleaded around where I live was 166.9 when I left for Czech on May 25th. I filled the bike up before heading for Dover. When I came back last Wednesday it was 174.9 and today 185.9! The price of crude bought months and months ago hasn't gone up that much!
