Hi Guys, hope someone can help as my technical knowledge is very low!
I am looking to instal wifi in my motorhome, mainly to chromcast Netflix & Sky Go to my Avtex TV and also use an Alexa smart speaker. I have been looking at a Kurrt AC790s LTE 4G mobile broadband but was hoping that I could swap out my Status Tv Ariel for a good quality 4G Ariel, as I don’t want to drill extra holes in my roof!
is this possible? and can anyone recommend an Ariel that would directly replace my existing Status Ariel?
Apologies if this has already been covered, I did look!

This won’t be the cheapest solution but it was the easiest when I looked. They are also incredibly helpful. From memory the hole for it looked about the same size as a status. I am sure a quick phone call will confirm.

Fitting the aerial took me 10 minutes.

I did exactly what you are looking to do. I had a status aerial and removed this and added a 4G external aerial from Motorhomewifi as above, using the quick fitting kit. You can even use the power lead from the Status TV amp. The longest part of the job was to remove the sikaflex / sealant from the old aerial. Then just connect all the leads from the 4G aerial to the quick unit, then quick unit to the Mifi. Power up and you're away. Dont use extension leads from External aerial to the MiFi. I think it was Lenny HB who worked out you lose too much in signal strength. We use ours all the time away; especially in the New Forest where at best you get Edge or no signal. With our set up now, consistant good 4G and whatsapp call if need to.

Hi
I also did what you are suggesting, however, I bought the Status blanking plate which conveniently uses the same screw holes as the aerial base, then drilled the centre hole through this for the WiFi mount. I used the Motorhomewifi antenna which has a very strong sticky pad to attach to the blanking plate so no more holes to drill through the roof. As Zigisila suggested, the Status aerial power source fits the Mifi unit so no wiring needed either.
Hope it works out for you as easily as it did for me.

Can you explain to a non-diy numpty why you need the blanking plate? In all the videos I've seen they simply remove the Status aerial, clean the gunge surrounding the hole and feed the extension bar through the existing hole.

Some status aerials have a large flange that screws to the roof not like the pole type in the video, that’s when you need the blanking plate because the original screws holes would be outsi the WiFi aerial foot print.

Exactly as Manic states above, the mifi aerial didn't cover the screw holes left by the status aerial.

Thanks to you all for your responses, i really appreciate your suggestions and will definitely consider Motorhomewifi products, looking at their Website, I would love to know your thoughts / experience on this setup, other than the obvious price, in comparison to the wifi pack 2 as suggested above.

I was originally thinking of this,

I have never used the iboost so can't comment on that, but the motorhomewifi pack 2 I found very easy to fit, the antenna is low profile and hardly noticeable. The unit in the van is discrete and so far I have received a very good wifi signal, wherever I have been, albeit that is only in the UK so far. Mine has a 3 SIM card.
