Advice on what to use in my thetford cassette, using Aldi bio washing pods ATM ( as advised) any ideas, shall I change to Lidl?? or go back to the blue stuff.

I put bleach in ours, have done for 8 years, and the caravan before that with no problems... And no smells 😎

Elsan Organic Green liquid seems to do the job well for us.
Double dosing in warmer weather is advised.

I don't think bleach will break down 'solids' like a bio tablet or a chemi-loo fluid will.

Note you've used "blue stuff" previously. If you are going to use bio tabs or liquid you must ensure there are absolutely no traces of the blue stuff left in the cassette as it destroys the bio action.

I've used both liquid and tabs with pretty good rates of success. However they don't seem to be as effective for as long as the chemicals and putting more in just makes a chemical type pong. I now empty whenever the opportunity arises, hopefully one or two days - we tend to tour rather than stay put for any length of time.

Always had SOG's so never use chemicals, I find cleaning the bowl regularly helps as the plastic appears to retain smells.

Yes it does, but I think the poo would disintegrate in water anyway, after all your bowel removes the water just before you give birth so it will readily re-absorb it and fall apart 👍

How many tabs are you using? I find ours works best with 2, and very best with 2 x Formil 3 in 1 tablets as they have fabric conditioner in them which has a smell that helps hide other smells.

also when we get home I empty the cassette, rinse with water and empty again, then put in clean hot water and another bio tablet then leave in the bath for a couple of days . Then swoosh the whole thing around, empty down the loo again, and put back in the van.

this all seems to work for us!

edit to add - when on site and empty the cassette, I don’t rinse it out just add new tablets and some water as I think (as in May not be right but in my head it is 🤣) the bio cultures can build up better if you don’t continually get rid of theM…

I would take it apart and give it a good service. Ours wasn't wiffy, but it had a calcium like lining. We used elbow grease and a chemical for removing limescale, an overnight soak. I was amazed at what came out. We then soaked overnight in diluted bleach. It is fine now.

After two years use with appropriate Thetford green stuff, I was a little more than surprised when I dismantled my cassette, to find the sides thickly covered in porous limescale.

This certainly will hold smells!

I dealt with it by soaking it with vast quantities of Harpic which brought it back to as new condition.

When I get home I do nothing! Then find it half full when I check for the next trip. It doesn't smell and empties VERY easily. At that point I rinse it thoroughly and give the outside a good clean. Bio tabs ensure the inside stays spotless.

Wessex Chemical Factors do a clear (or blue) Bio designed for cassette toilets. Give the cassette a really good clean and then use that.
