being quoted about £300 for a digital aerial... Are they really that expensive or am I being ripped off? Just bought one for the house for about £50....

All I want is the freeview channels on a digital TV....

You are being ripped off. I bought a normal domestic arial from Argos for a tenner, i mount this on a slot together aluminium pole, that i secure to my rear roof ladder and feed the coaxial cable through the back door.
I get all the Freeview channels at most of the campsites i have used.
