Hi gang!

SHMBO and I have been discussing ingress and egress from the MoHo, she has a replacement hip (only 58 years old so not Methuselah just yet!) and is likely to need the other one done in about 2 years time or less. I've organise a step with a hand rail attachment to supplement the electric step but thought that a handrail physically attached to the van could be a good idea. It seems you can get lockable ones for around £100 or non lockable for as little as £29, what has been your experience of handrails? I know I need a fold away one, I think that's the only type you can get, the only options being un/lockable. Please advise!

TIA!

Russ

Lockable one is better as you can use it as an additional form of external door lock.

when on site it can be locked out of the way if not required. Or left in the out position.
the one we chose was the Fiamma lockable

you have to pull a small Handel down as you move the rail into position.

It would be neater and better to fit a nice chrome handle on the side of the cabinet inside the van. The external ones are a pain & an open invitation to the toe rags, a friend had one of the Fiamma ones, toe rags pulled it through the bodywork 3k of damage to steal 20 quids worth of CD's.

If anyone wants to get in a motorhome then it’s going to cause damage anyway.

as for the cost of damage caused that can vary via the forced entry method.

a skylight would be the best entry point. If you have one.

smash a cab door window and the price drops to a few hundred pounds.

Some caravan steps have a removable side handle - another idea?

In my opinion exterior ones are more efficient when time comes that you really need a grab rail
The interior ones obviously are very nice and very handy but not for when you are leaving the van, the exterior also helps for that on the step or stepping down 😉☀️
