Due cancellation of our ferry to Santander on Tuesday (not operating until Saturday 15th). We have just booked the Chunnel for Monday night, we will be heading for Spain. I know this has been on before but where is safe place to stay the night a few miles out of Calais .

This ia a link to the search term Calais. Lots of ideas to be found.

Anywhere more than 50km away!

Depends how late you’re crossing, we motored for a couple of hours, down to Buchy.

Aire de stationnement pour camping car
Parking de la salle des sports, 76750 Buchy, France

Gravelines aire out in the sticks , we've used it several times very rural ,hard ground no services.

If you're heading for Spain, you don't want to be heading north, sangatte is 10 minutes away, and seems safe.

Heading to this one
Avenue des Garennes, 62170 Montreuil, France

Never been there but is south of Calais (1hr) and seems ok

Why do people recommend Gravelines when you’re heading to Spain??
It’s ok if you are heading that way I suppose (as long as you don’t mind your bikes being nicked)

If you get the Campercontact app you’ll see dozens of aires close by. Our preference is for Wissant ( about 15 minutes away and free) or Le Crotoy ( about an hour and €7)

This is a great aire about 40 mins south, correct direction for Spain :giggle:

Stayed here, its great... plus if you go back out to the main road, turn left and walk about 400 metres there's a guy with a pizza oven doing great pizza at reasonable price, plus there is an excellent baker near him.

Plenty of room at Wissant Friday :sneaky::france:

We will probably be using Montreuil next Wednesday night, we’ve used it several times, nice walk around the walls.

Neufchâtel Hardelot

I think there’s a few on here that would disagree with you.

It's right by the village centre, service are about a kilometer down the road next to the Gendarmerie.

Bleriot plage, parking beside sand dunes off D940. Between sangatte and the sailing centre. Radar station is a pointer to head for.

On top of the cliffs at Le Gris Nes, park in the bus parking area, bread van comes round in the morning

Stayed there last year to broaden our options in the area. All was well until a middle class rave started in the hall behind at about 2200hr and ended around 0300hr with another hour for the last, to roll out. Nice enough town to have a stroll round.

We always stay at Wissant, which is always quiet, not much in terms of services, but also used to park local buses, so don’t park in the middle bays!!!

The only reference I can find is someone who had an attempt to steal their bikes hanging off the back, I think that can happen anywhere? No reference to migrants, which is the main concern around Calais?
We've stayed a few times and a nice peaceful site, plenty of room, and quiet, nice views and 2 minutes walk to beach.

We found a black man in our garage at Sangatte on 20th January - i.e. just over two weeks ago.

Maybe its the parking area near the boat lake. Used it a few time but have heard of bad reports regarding young people asking for drinks.
