Where are all the Brits!!

We’ve also just realised tonight that it’s May Day tomorrow. We don’t know what to expect. Will France close down, or will there be parties everywhere

Back home in Uk after using our 90 days avoiding Uk winter, enjoying Spanish winter Sunshine 🍻🍷💃🕺🏻😎

Yes to both but you probably won’t see the parties. We got caught by this today 🤪 we never learn. Real shops in real towns might be open this morning but the big stores will be closed. If you’re using campsites, they will still be operating.

British people are not always in UK-registered MHs, e.g. many members on MHFun who have Spanish MHs and we who have a Polish-registered one.

Why just look for UK registration plates?
Not quite sure how else you are meant to spot them on the road other than the UK plates?

We are on camping Bella Vista Manilva, quite a few Brit plated vans on here.

We are in the middle of Spain somewhere with 2 other UK registered vans 1 fin and a french one ( they just got told off by the owner by the way. Lovely
Ooooo ... do tell! 😄

Does it matter if you see any. Im not bothered.
Depends on how long you are travelling for.

2 weeks, fine if we don't see any Brits.
2 months, it's nice to see a few people you can talk to on the same cultural level.
(Which is not the same as talking to Europeans who speak better English than we do, or say Ozzies, Kiwis, Yanks etc.)

And what's the chances of seeing a Polish registered RH drive 🤣

Almost nil because of Polish government's interpretation of a European Court decision.

It was possible to get one registered as 'Vintage' or 'Special Features'. but that has been abolished unless 30 years old. We got ours in before that law was changed.

Not really bothered, spent a few years out here in the Army so know a smattering of German enough to get by. I am also amazed by the amount of Dutch here (and the rest of Europe) every other van is Dutch but also found this in France and Belgium, we toured Netherlands in August a few years ago and it was empty!!!

In a large aire at gruissan on the French coast and not another uk registered MH in sight but a French van 2 pitches down has been rocking the English tunes all afternoon...is he a funster in disguise !!

We've been away 8 days and only seen 2 British vans, both passed us on dual carriageways. We've stayed on a mix of Aires and camp sites and not seen any other Brits. We do seem to be getting rarer... Wonder if we'll see any at La Toretta 🤔😁

Oh, a little racist maybe? Just because you don't understand their language does not mean they are not 'on the same cultural level' they may well be way above you and probably speak English, but choose not to.......

No I don't think so, in my case I much prefer chatting to British people on sites, much more in common and no language barrier no matter how good their English is. But I've got absolutely nothing against foreigners, in fact I'm with one now 😆👍

I would not expect say an American or French person, despite speaking fluent English, to understand, for example the meaning of a Dead Parrot, or the number of handles required for forks.

Having spent a lot of my life mostly solo travelling around the world on business, its nice to meet a fellow country(wo)man with whom you may converse.

The race (gender, religion, political persuasion, etc) of the individual does not enter into the equation.

Now down in Finestrat and there’s certainly more uk vans around, I think when we arrived the uk was the best represented.

Nearly all Brits appear to be on a straight line to the British Costa's of school nny Spain where we have been going by plane for decades. A mile or km of the beaten track no Brits. It appears.

I doubt that Brains is racist or that his remark was. Each national is of his/her own culture.

I am not convinced that's true, there just aren't that many Brits abroad. There are well over 1.2m French vans, Germany has just gone over 1m vans, there are 200k Dutch, 100k from Belgium, 70k From Spain, let alone all the other countries. We have 250k in the UK, probably only 10% of those regularly travel across the channel. It's no wonder you don't see many.

This time of the year we spot more rare migratory birds than Brit vans..
I did see a couple at a camperstop just 3 km off a arterial motorway...steady now I thought...you wouldn't want to wander into Real Spain...dirt roads with donkeys pulling carts...local bandits lurking round every corner, better head for the Costas...real food and drink there and much safer...really..
But the Costas are nice...actually we do live quite close to some very nice coastal towns..but they can be busy...
Just us last night on a 6€ pay camperstop...lovely location...fantastic small town...even Don Quixote stayed here. don't think he was a Brit....😄🇪🇦🚐

I don't wanna meet you fellow Brits when abroad! You're all two faced!! Oh yeah you're all waves and smiles when we pass on the road but as soon as I spot one on an Aire or quiet wild camping spot and go running across shouting and cheering with my guitar and a stack of that French super strength tramp lager you don't wanna know and pretend to be out or asleep so I end up playing with myself!
