It was supposed to be dry so I left without waterproofs and Paula left without the flask of hot water for drinks.
This was to be a long journey so I kicked butt and we were ready to leave by 1100 hrs !
The voie vert is easily the widest we have been on. It has very recently been resurfaced in loose gravel and there are no cycling tracks formed so smooth and noisy for the first 9 km. We have been on smaller roads in the motorhome this holiday following the sat nav.
Railway stations are now private houses along here
We got to Beaupte and lovely park which we stopped at on return. It is dedicated to one American soldier after he helped liberate the town
The surface changed to sany rock hard cement so easy to cycle on
And on reaching the TO we left our batteries to be charged and asked about the oyster vending machine noted by Jenben and we were given a map, but it was off the map. We walked round noting the 101 airborne memorobelia and were told about the viaduct the canal went over. That got me excited for a mini pont du gard
We walked down the canal
On a lovely avenue
And located a small length tunnel that goes under the canal made of concrete. Surprisingly better than I describe but it wasn't the pont du gard
Back for the church
With its knitted flowers adorning the entrance
Then out to the memorial to the filthy 13
Back to look for our oyster vending machine and we failed. But did find another memorial with knitted flowers in the tree by the hotel de ville
And back on the bikes home.
We noted several foragers today and previous days. We presumed mushrooms. But saw a couple today and they showed us hazelnuts. We remembered where they had been so gave it a go. This was our initial haul but we now knew what a hazelnut tree looked like so stopped several times on the way back and were correct twice.
I had to get the mushrooms as well
