Sept is usually fine but April can be wet and cold. I’d choose Sept.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We’re going back up in September.
( Disc problem permitting of course. )

Wait for the next heatwave, probably around 2032.

Don’t all be going in September. We like it quiet!

September and October can be lovely, bit cool but usually drier than April, quieter as well.

September can VERY often be a very nice month. Midges minimal this year as it's too warm and dry.
However there's a saying "No such thing as bad weather , just wrong clothing".

We did Dumfries and Galloway, Arran, Oban, Inverness and Fife last April and the first fortnight of May 2017...,we had glorious weather and no rain whatsoever. We had to but summer clothes as we werent prepared (y)
You just never know plus April and early May will be midge free....an important factor for us

Do you think they will have repaired the notorious pot holes on The NC 500 route by September?, I read on a funsters post last week that they had travelled the NW highlands, and said it was horrendous compared to the "lovely Smooth" roads of north Wales.
If we go this year, then it will also be in September, maybe at this rate we should have opened a new thread on the scheduled Rallies page:D
Be lovely to see some funster badges up there.

Well, seeing as everyone else is going in September & the roads are obviously going to be jammed with motorhomes, I think we'll go in April! :D2

eight years in theory, a newby in practice!!!
I've had lovely sunshine in April and no midges, but I've also experienced a frozen waterfall too. I would go in September this year, I've experienced many Indian summers over the years in Scotland. If I could choose any time of year I would go late May early June as the weather is generally more settled, well that's my plan for next year.(y)
