I popped into a local tyre fitter yesterday and asked how much they would charge to swap over the rear to the front wheels, to even out the tyre wear.
They said £20+vat, which I thought reasonable.
Firstly is this a wise decision ?
Secondly is this a reasonable charge ?
Your thoughts please.

Swapping tyres is often a good idea but bear in mind the following..

How recently have you had your wheel alignment carried out?

Misalignment can knock out a tyre in record time, and, with new tyres, the damage is likely to go unnoticed.

Most folks would hardly see the irregular wear on the tyre edge until the tread is near illegal, after all it’s still likely to have a fair amount of tread left, just far less than the other edge.

So swapping this tyre from the front to the rear is only going to now knock out the (previously evenly worn) rear tyre just as quickly.

I hope that makes sense.

Do you have a spare wheel (and jack) to add in to the cycle?
I'd be swapping wheels round myself and spending the £20 on an overnight pitch somewhere.

Doesn't cost me anything.
My brother is the motor vehicle lecturer at the local TEC college.
Just had 2 new tyres fitted and balanced, all four wheel (track) alignment reset and Aircon regassed.
Saved a couple of hundred quid.
Can't find a smug smiley. :giggle:

Makes sense but even wear all round is apparent so just evens out the tread wear. 👍

Being that you live on the dark side of the moon it’s probably too far for me to get a free tyre swap 😎

Are you not more likely to have to replace all 4 tyres at once by swapping.
As Stag man says, 2 sets of fronts to 1 set of rears.

I’ve always done this without problems BUT if you have TPMS it’s a problem 🤕
