Was a Newbie but getting the hang of it now.

Been meaning to read up in handbook etc. as to what its for.
No mention in fiat or benimar handbooks!
Vehicle is Fiat ducato and a benimar HM.
I initially thought it was to assist going up hill as there is one that assists the braking system on the dashboard.
Comfortmatic gearbox if thsts a help switch is just above gear stick.

Got the same button - my understanding is it's for when the vehicle is fully loaded it makes the comfortmatic change gear a bit higher to help the lugging. It should probably be permanently engaged on a Moho but I've never needed to use it with the 3.0 torque.

It is the "Up button" it is explained in the Comformatic handbook.
Switched on it holds gears longer before changing up. Meant for use in hilly districts if you have a heavy van it can be worth using all the time.

You would think by now, as everything is computer controlled, it would sense the increase in torque on hills and switch it automatically.
Would also increase acceleration when needed.

Cheers for that LennyHB, will have to get hands on a comformatic handbook none in the forest of paper on handover, or download when home next week.

You wouldn't have a link to the commercial comfortmatic handbook by any chance would you? I've only ever found the regular version that doesn't have the 'up button' function.

We have had a couple of occasions to use the Up button but I'm not sure how effective it is.

In the Lake District we took the the road from Great Langdale past Blea Tarn. This is not rated as one of the great lake district passes but there is one section so steep it's almost vertical. We were chugging up in second I'm getting slower and slower until the comfortmatic went to change down at which point the van just stopped, so did my heart. Then first gear engaged and we were off again.

A similar thing happened this weekend in the Malvern hills. This time the up button was not engaged. It was a T-junction on a very steep slope with left hand turn. The traffic was clear so I went for it and just at the top of the slope it changed down a gear and we stopped but only for a moment.

Have any other funsters had heart or stopping moments on hills?

Tried the button yesterday on way to fowey and the dammed thing fell into the dash !!!
After a mile got a transmission warning bleep so pulled into car park at top of hill, switched off got a nose full of that hot smell (brakes/clutch)
Took surround off dug button out,put back together and prayed.
No problem when returned to van.
That is one button that is not getting pressed again 😱😓

Useful thread this. I have also got the button in the pic and dared not to press it to date. Can you press it while the engine is running and the gear engaged?

Which button? Can't see how the UP button would cause problems.

Yes, that's how you can use it, slowing down going up a hill, press the button the box will change down and hold the lower gears longer. Really beneficial on heaver vans use it a lot on our 4500kg van.

Yes, this has happened to me a few times and it’s not only scary it’s downright dangerous.
As a rule I prefer to use manual if I am going over hills or mountain roads.

I'm a bit worried about these buttons in my MOHO :roflmto:
More use than a button that hides in the dashboard when pushed. Want a set 😀
Is there a one for cutting hedge when swmbo is driving down lanes🤔🤔

Had it a couple of times on the last van a 2014, my current van 2017 not a problem the all the gearbox changes seem smoother once I'd clocked up 10,000 to 15, 000 miles, than they were in the last van.
Have another problem on steep hills the traction control cuts in the wheels judder & spin on the spot, I've put that down to the rubbish Michelin Camper tyres.

Warning: Zombie thread alert

Having tried this button on our recent return trip to Portugal we are very impressed. We are at maxweight as Betsy is being something of a stealth pickfords van.

It's a much better drive over the mountains from Bilbao and then as you enter Portugal along the A23 towards central Portugal.

Interestingly, it also seems to fix a problem we have had with the steering. We've always thought it became to light when doing anything over 60. With this mode engaged the steering is much firmer at 70.

Ours is a 2016 chassiss, x290. Conformatic 6 speed box.
(Date corrected)

And to answer another Funsters question - yes, it can be turned on And off while driving at speed.
