One of the rings on my Thetford hob was giving a large yellow flame when lit. Not burning properly. When I opened it up I found these shards of glass. Anyone any idea what they used to be, and do I need to replace whatever it was. The ring seems to work perfectly now.

Looks like safety glass that has shattered. If the van is new to you maybe the glass top was replaced. and not cleaned away properly Whatever they came from ,it's a much bigger piece as bits don't just break off.. the whole lot shatters.

Almost certainly the glass lid shattered and pieces of glass got into the burners. The same thing happened to ours about 3 years ago and to this day we're still finding some some bits when cleaning up around and under the cooker.

Perhaps glass lid smashed at sometime. Must get faster fingers!
Best check other rings.

Funny stuff toughened glass. I once sat with a glass of whiskey with ice in my hand, suddenly it just exploded into a pile of those tiny glass chips you see from broken windscreen glass. I was not cut just stunned sitting there with a handful of glass chips and wasted whiskey soaking through my trousers. Of course the most logical explanation is the glass shattered due to the thermal stress of the cold whiskey and my warm hand. Strangely I swear the heap of broken glass was greater than the size of the glass, I rather fancy the alternative theory that a glass from a parallel universe materialised in exactly the same place in ours.

Thanks all. Makes sense that the lid smashed and wasn't cleaned out properly. Our latest trip must have moved the stuff around and blocked the gas feeder. The other ring was working ok, but on inspection had just a very few bits of glass underneath. Both rings now cleaned out properly.
