My granddaughters partner is a Paramedic, after being ill for a few days, he went back to work today. A patient spat in his face! The police are interviewing him now.

We don't need these people, they will never be an asset to society or bring joy to anyone. A 9mm cure would be short and efficient, hard but fair......

Absolute zero tolerance in this shit show that we find ourselves in. The guy should be thrown out and refused any treatment, let him complain all he likes as the ambulance is driving off to help someone else.

The dpp said today that they prosecute all people in these circumstances and that there is a maximum penalty of 2 years.
And it should be upheld.
But its a £1000 for no MOT and I never heard of anyone getting fined 1/10th of that.
What the max fine is and the 'in realty' fines are completely different.

Unfortunately lots of us that practice at the coal face of healthcare have been sworn at, kicked, punched and yes spat at.
Sometimes it’s actually because people are ill, we all accept it does happen, it’s not nice but the reward is when the sick become ‘normal’ again as they recover.
What we don’t like is when it happens through malice, then we need to be listened too and the punishment should fit the crime.
Do the same to a police officer and frequently the punishment is far higher.

When I was in the Fire Service, we had “spit packs”

A wipe and a plastic bag, which could be used for DNA testing. The theory was don’t argue or get drawn into fisticuffs, just collect the evidence, the chances are they are already on the database so will be caught.

Having said that I did see one of our lads knock a youth over a wall with a high pressure hose reel for attempting a spit, obviously I couldn’t remember seeing anything when interviewed afterwards ;)

my son is a psychiatrist. Early in his training he was attacked by a patient and ended up with a broken nose, two black eyes and quite traumatised at the time. Patient got a £150 fine...

Is it not a shame, corporal punishment is no longer allowed, or for those against corporal punishment, transportation to a unoccupied island that is going to disappear under rising seas. It would give them time to think about their mistakes unlike a 9mm which is bit quick. Being ex police, I kind of understand assaults on police, I have never understood attacks against other emergency services.
