Our Weinsberg CaraCompact has this string operated valve labelled AUF & ZU. I have no idea what this is for and the Operating Manual that came with the unit does nothing more that show the picture. The valve in question is #3. I found another source online that labels it "Duct valve". I think it is for diverting some heating to the fresh and waste water tanks? Any advice would be appreciated!

WE have valve in the truma ducting similar to this but operated by string.
Just a spring loaded butterfly valve to allow or stop warm air. In our hymer it extends heating to underfloor tanks.
The string can be pulled tight and then jammed by pulling sideways.

Sorry I missed this post back in January. You are partially correct. It does open a truma hot air duct. You pull the string down through the cleat and pull towards you to lock it open. However it is not for the water tanks. The black box labelled 3 is the automatic boiler dump valve which activates when temps get below about 7 degrees. The duct directs warm air directly onto this unit meaning your boiler doe s not lose its contents during cold nights - so long as you have the heating on low.
