What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Dealer wanted extra £250 to replace the air, pollen and fuel filters at annual service. No way was I going to pay that so changed all three yesterday for under £50.

Blade jammed on Wednesday morning while waiting for Bilbao-Rosslare ferry.
Spent a night at the Coal Bunker pub near Wexford then 2 days and a night in Cork Tesco's car park while I wrestled with it.
Still needs a new control panel, so no flush (not a problem) and we're using the MaaxFan as a sog ...

Just need the fridge fixing now ...

Reattched the reed switch for the Sog fan for about the 10th time on this trip. Used new super sticky pads to glue it in place. Hopefully this will fix it as when it comes unstuck it turns the fan on. I think the fan was on constantly for about seven days before I realised.

I fitted new seats in my van this week then we removed the bulkhead so they can swivel into main living area. As soon as I fitted the seats they ceased being able to slide forwards or backwards (lots of head scratching)
Removed the passenger seat again still couldn’t get it to slide! They slid before I put them in? Then hubby realised when I swopped the seatbelt receivers over the bolts were 1mm too long and were pinching the sliding mechanism (arghhhh) so he cut 2mm of each bolt re-attached the offending articles and now we have new seats the slide and turn - yay

I used Autoglym Caravan & Motorhome Cleaner. I read here that someone else had used it so thought I'd give it a go. You have to spray it on and let it work for up to 5 minutes but without letting it dry. The van was very green after the winter and this cleaner turns the green brown very quickly.
Used an extending lorry brush to scrub it then rinsed liberally.
I haven't actually done the roof yet, I'm hoping that the 1/4 of a bottle of cleaner I have left will be enough, although it won't actually matter too much up there.
2.5 litres from halfords was £21.

Fixed the sheared bolt on my Lippert Step on the Burstner. Went when winter touring in December and have been trying to get someone to repair it for months as it looked tricky going into the motor, but was continually let down. So decided to have a crack at it myself and wasn't really that difficult with the right tools. Stripped out and replaced all 10 sets of bolts, washers and nuts on the whole step and seemed good as new this weekend.

Top hinge broke on my Dometic 8400 fridge so fitted a standard drilled bar from B&Q. The pre drilled holes were the exact size required for the top pin on the door hinge.

Moved a solar panel to make room for the 200w one that's due to arrive on Wednesday...once fitted that will be the roof full.. 640 watts in total...may even sell the 200w folding as we've never used it.!

Yep, I’ve been singing its praises for many years, just looked and I think I mentioned it on this very same thread in 2017 as well.

I had to fix the hinges on the freezer door for a dometic. Only problem was after having a knee replacement I was stuck and couldn’t get up and had to put my knee down for a split second. Never again

Just sorted my electrics by obtaining a faulty ECU from Ebay and making one good unit from two. Bit of challenge, but everything seems to be working. The faulty unit from Ebay was only £70, compared to circa £500 for a new one.

Looks to have done a good job, easy to use and not particularly messy, though I got it free off a mate who bought too much for his Landrover Defender. He highly rated it on his Landrover.

Only downside, is it isn’t permanent.

Yesterday I investigated changing a single usb socket out to a higher capacity usb-c version. Wiring traced and looks okay, managed to remove the old unit and then today found how to open the hole up for the new socket. Also updated the VW “Shop” in the infotainment system, and discovered how to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel.

Parked next to a Spanish couple in Segovia yesterday. It turns out that he is a retired motor mechanic ITV/MOT examiner and he pointed out that my rear tyres were quite close to being illegal and obviously dangerous.
He went on to explain to me what the codes on the tyres meant and advised me what to demand of the fitters when replacing them.
This morning, I took his advice and popped into a local (Segovia) tyre fitters and had them replaced.
Professional service and of course a massive thanks to my neighbour Jose and his missus, Antonia.

I've repaired the Jabsco poo pump that draws from the cassette into a black storage tank. This required dismantling the suction pipework that was loaded with poo from our recent fishing trip to Spain. This was NOT a nice job. Hymer used bolts to secure the pump through the floor above it but then installed an electrical control unit over the top of the bolt heads. ARGH!!!. By this time the stale poo was dripping off my elbows and the air was blue. Eventually retrieved the pump and fitted a service kit. All working again at last.

I have replaced the hinges on my Dometic freezer box flap. A very quick easy job, 6 screws. OCD not happy as they are white not grey but hey ho at least the freezer closes properly now. Fridge worked better but no change with freezer……. Maybe my next job should be the freezer Rather than the high level break light
