Yes but it comes down to what I said a few posts ago with more people to feed all the time and less ground to feed them with it's just a downward spiral that can't continue.
Nature has a way of solving problems though. Giving humans enough stupidity to make them kill each other regularly, witness two world wars. And if that doesn't work make sure there's a few nasty viruses from time to time, like Spanish Flu.

It's been a while since we've had a major cull so expecting nature to rise to the occasion quite soon. And then the few remaining people can spend the future cleaning up the mess, like proper planet custodians should do. :D

Five pounds a pint to talk to people you only meet once a year, about what rubbish there is on the tv, don't think so:xrofl:

The Pubs in Utoxeter are obviously ripping people off. I never pay more that 2.75 for top brands Here. and can still get some "guest" ales at £2. We do still have some "community" left too.

Ok, heres my thoughts:
Littering especially by the "younger Generation" is all too common, its as if its not "Cool" to do otherwise, just sit in a MacDonalds and see how most people would rather stink out their cars than eat inside the restaurant, then chuck everything out the windows. Every outside bin at our local MacDonalds was full to overflowing, by those that did bother to get out their cars!

Everyone carrying water bottles was seen and still is an image thing, but those people paying through the nose for Star Bucks coffee and alike, those coffee cups cannot be recycled as they are plastic lined cardboard which cannot be separated. instead of making them all recyclable Star bucks will put an extra 10P on the price of each cup, to somehow pay towards landfill? what is all that about???

Our Green recycling bin at home is full of plastic each fortnight. Most of our meats, bacon, sausages, whole chickens, chops, are covered and packaged in the stuff, we have no choice but to have it offered this way.

Dont think we will see Glass bottles returning anytime soon, even with a refundable deposit on them, why?, simply because of weight, its costs more in diesel to deliver them, and the hauliers would justify this, and would also claim the additional weight would "Increase their carbon footprint".

So we can be more responsible, but its impossible not to be "plastic consumers", as everything we buy is covered in it. The only people that can make a difference are the manufacturers, with pressure from the government. But I wont hold my breath on that as they are so short term in thinking.
Heres a Paradox for you....cut down on dangerous vehicle emissions, by charging people to enter London?, has it reduced traffic...NO....has it forced more people to use public transport?...NO....where is all the money from the congestion charge going...come on Sadik Khan please tell us? New Cycle Routes?
New Cycle lanes have clogged up the roads in London now, causing more congestion, therefore more noxious gasses, so its unhealthy to cycle in London without wearing a mask as they do in China.

The poorer nations around the world, dont have much choice in these matters and are just happy to get what they can, in any form, just to survive, so again its the manufacturers of disposable items that need to change their processes. The islands in the pacific and in Malaysia and Thailand were covered in plastic 30 years ago, Fish became scarce as the seas were over fished, so in the Philippines they started lobbing dynamite sticks over the side to scare the fish out that were there from hiding in the rocks that ruined their nets.... problem is people live for now, some say to survive, and feed their families, but whats their kids, kids going to have to live on?

Sad, but I really dont see an immediate answer in our lifetimes, and yes the world population explosion as David Attenburgh Says....is a real problem, natural resources will soon be used up at an even greater rate, but no notice will be taken, by which time it maybe irreversible...End Of!

Most of our green waste is recycled into Compost for the veggie patch. Just about to start trenching the lot made over the last 6 months or so. Re cycle Bags & Bin are always full when they are put out
During school terms I pick up on average half a dozen bits of litter a day dropped by the "little darlin's " as their parents escort them to school around the corner, that seem to gather around about the section every day.

Slight thread drift, but we try our best to be self sufficient, but at a greater financial cost:(

Forgot to mention earlier TinaL has two allotments, with a large recycled greenhouse, raised beds, and several water butts. She grows everything from seed, then plants out. It always amazing to us that the veg that were so successful last year, probably will not be as good next year even though planted out same time, so weather is very important. Despite staggering the planting, the veg in most cases crops all at the same time, so we end feeding the residents of our road, some of which you can tell have never cooked, Jerusalem Artichokes, Celeriac, or even Aubergines or courgettes before! We blanch & Freeze as much as we can (another large Freezer was needed), and we make pots & pots of Passata, from our 6 different tomato variety's which is normally pink in colour & sweet in taste.

So all the veg peelings along with all the leaf growth from the Brassicas gets composted down(very high nitrogen content) and spread over the plots, however I always tell people that although we grow most of own veggies, by the time we add up what we spend on fertilisers, additional composts, and alike, we no doubt, grow the most expensive "Organic" veg in the world!:D However it does taste fantastic, there is nothing like a new dug potato, with butter & Chives, cooked within an hour or two of being dug up...I,m starving now, better get dinner on.
Hell knows how she will have the time next year, as I hope we can have longer periods away in the new moho.
Take care everyone.

We do the usual recycling etc, same as most sensible peep's do.
I am also a member of Green Gym , a local conservation group which voluntary helps various charitable organisation's with conservation projects , one of which is beach cleaning on the Isle of Wight ( us being surrounded by water) & I always collect rubbish on my dog walks .

We seem to have a huge problem with McDonald's fast food packaging in our area which is shocking when you consider that the closest outlet is 25-minutes away.

The country is quickly turning into one big refuse dump.

When we retired recently we decided we would go down the self sufficiency route. Then we got a motorhome. Then we thought the two don't mix. If you're not around to water in dry periods and on holiday when the veg are ready to crop etc.

So we made two massive raised beds in which we put a reservoir of stones and water on a pondliner in the bottom . . self watering. We planted various fruit bushes only, so there isn't much looking after to do.

So no spuds unfortunately. But loads of yummy blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in the freezer :D

check out the websites

and buy bamboo products [socks- toothbrushes - amazing what they make from bamboo nowadays!]

We all need to do what we can- I have stopped using sandwich bags [foil now] and have always used hemp/string/cloth shopping bags; dont drink water so no nasty plastic bottles for me. Stella comes in re -cyclable containers. But seriously - very heartening to see that people are beginning to take a bit more thought when buying stuff.
Shop at farmers markets or 'proper ' veg stalls and butchers.
We could always start to take all the plastic wrappings off the food[especially fruit] in the supermarket and leave it for them to get rid of. Bet that would make the shops review policies.

We are switching to soap instead of shower gel to avoid all the empty plastic bottles (we seem to go through loads!) and planning to avoid plastic round veg etc. Also do all the usual recycling and will look for as many ways as possible to avoid plastic bottles.

Kitchen roll and toilet roll cardboard make perfect seed trays for single seed planting .. then just put the whole thing in the garden when the seed sprouts, without disturbing the roots... The cardboard eventually rots into the soil as compost. This especially good for cucumber seeds or sweet pea seeds in fact any large seeds. Tea bags chopped up make good compost for indoor plants.

Use existing plastic drinking bottles by cutting them diagonally at the top to make pouring jugs for garden, or cut in half and turn upside down fill with water for bird drinking bottles to hang from bird tables, and DON'T BUY ANY MORE.

We were out shopping last month, its been years since we had a Big Mac, so it seemed sensible to go in and see what they had on offer these days. So we had two Big Mac Meals, sat down eat it, made a mess of my fingers with everything sqeezing out at funny angles. Bottom line chips are crap, too dry, Burgers are tiny, bun was tasteless and the whole experience was enough to make us both feel...never again, how do these kids live on this stuff. see mothers picking kids up from school cuing in the drive through, then eating in the car!, whats that all about, too lazy to cook?
Les...having a rant as usual !

Yup!. Not as interesting as seeing who`s doing what to whom. and with what, on Faceache?. Seeing the "yummy mummies" as my neighbour calls them, Passing the house, glued to the "Dumb" phone, kids loose and dicing with the traffic, passes for normal near the primary School.

Such a shame, their kids will just go inside themselves and not develop their own personalities, they will be clones of each other all having the same stuff. My new neighbours children age 22 & 25, cant even hold a conversation with us, they will walk past you without even saying hello, or hows things?, you should see their shocked reaction when I grab their attention to make them respond, and then its only yea I,m OK, never how are you? I would probably get through better if I FB them as thats not to much in your face, like it is in the real world.

I now only shave with a DE safety razor, 100 decent blades for well under £10, you're lucky to get 10 Mach 3/Fusion type blades for that. They're recyclable and with practice give a far superior shave.

I'm also saving up all HDPE containers/tops I use, instead of putting them out to go who knows where I'm going to melt them down, press them in a mould to make slabs to use as jacking pads for the upcoming E&P leveller
I'm having fitted to our van. Recon I need about 10kg for 4, and as milk containers, shampoo bottles, household cleaning product bottles etc are about 50-70g it may take awhile.

Also decided I'm not going to buy anymore cling film, bottled water (it's not HDPE) and try to avoid buying items that have excessive plastic in the packaging.
