Hi there - For the last 30 years we have been taking trips in motorhomes and like everyone else, we find we forget to pack some item or another from time to time.
A few years ago, we picked up a small notebook and keep it in the cab. As we climb the hill leaving Dover on our way back from the port, we open up the book and write down what we have forgotten on this trip so that we just might remember it next time.
On one significant trip, we opened the book and I was asked what we needed to remember next year.
"The driving document," I said. I had realised I had left the folder with the driving documents on the kitchen table at home. o_OI did not tell the boss or she would have worried. :eek:We have never done that again!
Usually its nothing so important, perhaps tea towels or a phone charger.

So........what have you left behind in the past.
Or is it just us?
D

One year we forgot to close the front door. I thought she had done it. She thought I had done it. Luckily our kind neighbour realised what had happened and shut it after a few days. Burglary is not really known on the Isle of Man so no harm done.

I went on holiday a few years ago for two weeks and on my return found I had left my keys in the garage door.

The fob contained my car keys, house keys and office keys.

Obviously it was my wife's fault as she must have distracted me.

Now going back to our tugging days, I said to the boss I've packed the fridge dear. Arrived at the site she opened the fridge and shouted you said you packed the fridge. I did, there was beer, gin, tonic & wine but no food. 8 o'clock in the evening with two hungry young kids, I was not popular, lucky there was a chip shop a few miles away.

I have a "holiday" wallet which has foreign currency, driving licence, E111 card etc in it. I leave my UK wallet with all my UK currency, credit/debit/store cards at home. We were leaving Hull on the ferry when I went to the bar for a drink. Took my wallet out of my pocket to pay only to find that I had my UK wallet instead of my holiday wallet so no driving licence, E111 or euros. It's surprising how much you modify your driving habits when you know that if you get stopped you can't produce your licence.

Towards the end of my tugging days I lent the caravan to my son and a friend to spend a long on a cl in Wales. Tap and electric nothing else. Phone call when they arrived to ask where the toilet cassette was. I’d taken it out to clean. I still do not know how they managed to this day.

We (she) forgot a phone charger cable and both of us had to be available for various reasons over the weekend, luckily we were at MHFun headquarters so it was very easy to borrow one.

🙂

Emptied the van prior to a hab check. It was going to be an overnighter.
no towels or tea towels. Ever tried to park a Motorhome in Leeds to hunt for towels?

I 'trusted' hubby to put the docs in once for a foreign trip whilst I was sorting other bits ... when we got to Eurotunnel realised he'd left the docs in the kitchen at home but as I always have scanned images ET staff were happy to print them for us.

As for a 'real' disaster though ... when we had our Rimor Sailer we went to Dave Newell to have cruise control fitted before going on to a weekend show ... I hadn't packed any knickers so we had to go shopping for some (this might explain why I have LOTS of knickers now!). 😄

A nickerless Minx my dream 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Went to a folk (beer) festival with a group of friends we were all catering for one day, one lot opted to provide us with fish and chips form the van, can't remember what our chef member made, We were doing salad including bought cooked chicken. John transferred from the car boot at the storage, assured me it was empty. All ready to rock and roll with tea, no chickens ! fortunately we had assorted emergency tins and managed a passable repast, the beer and wine helped too.
he still gets ragged about it now, my car stank for days , cooked chicken continuing to cook in a metal box in excetionally hot weather. I now double check everything has been removed from the car that needs to be.
Doesn't help with the tickets left in the cabinet at home though, were going to one of the shows so turned bak for them, found out when we gor there that they would have let us in with the info i had on my phone :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
John is in charge of all tickets as 'I can't be trusted' another one he hasn't lived down yet.
Am sure I have forgotten things too but usually something easily purchased or borrowed.
Minxy Girl I always leave knickers in the van, even when it goes for service or habitation check.

So do we, I think they must've come out after our previous holiday and just never got put back in when they'd been washed but instead went into the bedroom drawers drawer! 😄

Back in our re enactment days I forgot to pack the tent poles. Luckily we had travelled separately so I wasn't too far from home to retrieve them

1... After arriving a CC Rally at Harewood House near Leeds back in the late 80s, as soon as I had pitched the caravan and erected the awning, I said to Rita, I think I'll get into my shorts now. Both she and the daughter just looked at each other. It turned out that the only clothes I had with me........................... were the ones I was standing in. The rest were in carrier bags at the bottom of the stairs at home, waiting to be packed. A trip to George @ Asda for essentials, was essential.

2... In Namur Belgium, we had the need to contact our insurers due to an accident. All the insurance documents were lying on the coffee table back home.

3... About 3 x years ago, we toured Ireland after 3 x Meets in Scotland first. We were away for about a month, sailing out via Belfast, and sailing back via Dublin. It wasn't until three weeks in to the trip, that I realised I had left the travel folder containing passports, my driving licence, Euros, insurance docs, registration docs, and other important stuff, back at home. Lucky for us ANPR cameras at the port recognised the vehicle from the ferry booking, but no one checked who the occupants were. :whatthe:

Yes, I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We sold our house & moved into our first van to full time. For lots of reasons (including only picking up the van the afternoon before) the morning of the move was a mad dash between house, van & storage. As we drove away from the house in the new Motorhome, having handed over the keys, my husband remembered that all his socks & pants were still in the bedside drawer! A quick trip to Next, & an apology text to the new owners followed! 😂🤣

When we did the first trip in our Bongo, I forgot to put the gas bottle in 😟
Back in the days when still used a frame tent, we had a 6 berth with a large front lounge area [about 15ft x 10ft] with 2 very large picture windows. At the start of the next season, with a trip to France booked, I went into the loft and scooped up the 2 bags of tent canvas and poles. When we got to the French site, I remembered that my youngest stepdaughter had borrowed the tent late in the previous season and had had trouble repacking; so she had placed the curtains for the large picture windows in a 3rd bag ...

Crawling on all fours to avoid exposing ourselves to our neighbours on the 1st night/2nd morning was fun [shouldn't have told Elaine that following her on all fours was like the moon coming over the mountains ...]. Trip to Super U after breakfast to buy a shower curtain and some shower hooks to cobble together a pair of white plastic curtains that did nothing for the decor but did enable to walk upright without flashing our fellow campers ...

My first camping trip when young was in a tent with first love of my life.

We forgot ground sheet and sleeping bag and money. :(. It was freezing. To make matters worse we camped on top of a hill, it was blowing a gale, pouring with rain, and...... the grass had just been cut... We were like two green hairy monsters. :(

(but in love). :)
