Hi,

I am looking to replace my Range Rover with a Luxury Grand Tourer.

Its to use for long Distance trips to Spain, Scotland and up in the Alps in Winter.

I just cannot think what to replace it with?.

* 4X4 Or at least AWD
* 5 to 8 Comfortable Seats.
* I don't like saloons so must be Estate/Minivan
* Prefer Diesel
* High Towing Capacity
* Power and Refinement

Used Market - Budget is £25,000

Any suggestions please?

Audi A6 Quattro?

BMW 5 series xdrive.

VW Caravelle 4x4

If 4x4 then the world's your oyster but most will be disappointing compared to the range rover.

Cheers James

If i was in the market for a vehicle of your wanting i would go for the Porsche Cayenne.

X trail worth a look too, half the price of some others, does the same job, do you place value on a badge ? If not go for Jap or Korean.

I went from Cornwall to Inverurie a couple of weeks ago in my bmw 520d… 760miles with one tank full and only stopped once for a pee. So comfortable at a leisurely drive….👍🏼

Mercedes ML420 diesel will be my next. I've had an ML 350 petrol auto for the last eight years and apart from one broken coil spring it's not put a foot wrong. Very comfortable on a long trip, it's been from Cardiff to Geneva and back at least 6 times. Put a ski box and bikes on top plus bikes on the back and makes no difference. Awesome in snow too 👍

I had a Volvo XC90 for one week on hire a few years ago, terrible, uncomfortable
seats and an awful vibration from the diesel engine, gave me a headache every time I drove it. I couldn't wait to hand it back

Not great road cars though Phil. I had a top of the range one maybe 15 years ago and I cant tell you how tiring it was to drive to Spain.
Yep my brother in law had an Amazon a few years ago. Great on snow or off-road but not something for long motorway journeys. Definitely a bit agricultural.

Not had one, just know its teriffic off road for a road car.

Wife has a Tiguan 4*4 auto it'snice, when I'm allowed to drive it. 🙄

Had both RRs and Cruisers over the years. Without doubt the Cruisers are more reliable. Both were excellent in the desert if driven proppa.
(yes i know that's not relevant here:cool:)

For £25k you’d struggle to get a new shape xc90, if you got one it would be one of the earlier models that have had real reliability issues.

For that money you could get a very nice Skoda Superb estate.
Ive just recently got a 2 year old petrol one with the dsg gearbox, as I couldnt justify a diesel ( too many short journeys) and I am very pleased with it. Largest load in its class, extremely comfortable and drives like a dream.
