So had a great morning today

we inadvertently put the oven on instead of the hob to boil the kettle. A minute or so later smoke coming out of the oven. Yep the tea towels were in to stop the grill pan rattling as never use the oven 😳😳

Then coming out of the super U thought, I don’t remember switching the fridge off. It had been on gas.
Got back to the van and it was still working on gas.

Had fuelled up too 😳😳😳

Two disasters avoided fortunately.

Sod this off grid stuff, better off on electric hookup 😂😂

Don’t worry, in our previous van I put the grill on instead of the oven and then went outside to wait for dinner to cook. Gosh did that grill pan handle smell bad! Took ages for it to fade. Managed to get a replacement fortunately.

Hope that helps, you’re not the only plonker.

And that was all while sober.

So now on the leffe 👍and hook-up 😂

On a serious note, it’s so easily done when there’s a number of things on your mind. Never mind. Cheers Funsters 🍺🍺

I managed to set fire to a silicon anti slip mat in the oven earlier this year. Thankfully I was looking to check burners lit but the silicone mat went up quickly in flames that surprised me as they are heat resistant. Power extinguisher used to effect but holiday ending, luckily only hour from home.

Quite scary isn’t it 😳😳 as you think, no. Don’t burn down, I’ve just restocked the wine 😂😂

Yep!

In France several years ago I did the same. Realising that the tea towel, that was wrapped around the grill pan had caught fire, I whipped it off and threw it out of the door. It set fire to the dry grass so I jumped out in order to stamp the fire out. Not a bad idea until I realised that I was in bare feet!

My wife reckoned that I looked like a Cherokee Indian, (other tribes are available), doing a war dance as I jumped about with very hot feet.

Since starting this motorhome lark, I've forgotten to:

Unhook more than once (one time only realised when hook up cable overtook us out of the pitch)
Close grey waste valve
Bring up self leveling when leaving (thankfully failsafe does it on its own)
Lock keys in garage, three times
Leave big roof vent fully open when driving
Close satellite dish ( autoclose worked)
Not raised bed when putting scooter in garage

Amongst other foolish things.

My latest stupid thing.
Water pump stopped working so I unscrewed the access doobry to check it (turned out the pump was fine just cheap fuse had blown) and must have cross threaded it putting it back. Next fill up of water instant flood. Had to cut short our trip and van is now at home drying out. Doobry now fitted properly with a bit of silicone grease on the O ring and is now watertight.
Carpets out, shampoooed and now lovely, noodle mats washed and dried, but some of the woodwork is still giving 100% moisture reading.
Fans and an electric dehumidifier in action.

I suspect most of us have done silly things (I certainly have) but I’m finding this thread quite uplifting 🤣

Ha ha that’s why I started it. Thought what a daft sod but bet others have also been so.
Bit of light hearted, laugh at yourself sort of thing. So bloody British 😂😂

Make yourself a check list and be disciplined enough to go through it EVERY time you drive off!

Many years ago , in our caravan , woke up with a sore throat & head , no idea why , then later that night the X wife after cooking says that hob won’t turn off again , i says how did you get it off last time , she says I blew it out 😅 , we had slept with gas escaping into caravan all night , I think a sore throat was the least of our worries 😰

I had a lovely weekend away and when I returned opened the fridge door no light , strange looked at the switches and I had turned it off before I left the same time as the cooker. So this afternoon is batch cooking, and freezing as the all the meat had now quite defrosted so it was fish for tea last night rather than the 60p sirlion steak bought yesterday on yellow label, thats now freezing  :banghead: Numpty's rule

I fitted a pair of stabiliser drop down legs on our Miller just before a trip to Garda for a bikers meet
So a week later its all over and time to leave...
Yup, forgot all about the new legs and ploughed to lovely neat furrows for about 25 yards

Snap…..But done by our sons.

They were both in the Army at the time, and wanted to meet up for a few days, so arranged to meet up at home. A few days before they arrived we had departed for our three week motorcycle tour on the continent, leaving the freezer full of batch cooking ready for our return.

All I said was help yourself to whatever’s in the freezer and don’t forget to switch everything off and set the alarm………yep…..switched off the fridge / freezer / boiler……but they did set the alarm. 🤦‍♂️

Not sure I understand this part of your post? We leave the fridge on gas all the time. What else can you do when you are out for the day and not on EHU. Switch the fridge off for too long and everything will spoil.

SWMBO read the instructions on cooking a pizza in the oven. Switched on the gas, got it up to temp and slid the pizza in on its plastic tray, which strangely enough, melted and dripped down into the oven gas vents, promptly blocking them all.

No pizza, no oven and a bugger to clear out the damage it caused 🤭😀

We had an oven above the coal fire in our London Council house. I was very young, and very cold, so I opened the damper on the fire to warm things up a bit. Consequently the oven got very hot.
My mother had put all my newborn sister's Terry nappies in there...

Ahh those doobry things get you all the time 😂😂

In the petrol station refuelling with the fridge on gas so there was a naked flame. Unless it’s sealed from outside ??

Should be OK to turn off long enough to fuel up. Mike

If you lower the glass lid on a 2 burner gas hob with 1 of them still lit, its amazing how loud the resulting explosion is and how far those tiny shards of glass can travel.
In the interests of equality and fairness I'm unwilling to say who was responsible, but it wasn't me. 😉

Did the 'clear out' include SWMBO?😀
