A few curious questions for any of you willing to share your experience..

What’s been your best Motorhome?
Why was it the best?
How many did you have before it?
How much did it cost?

1, My current one if I ever get to use it
2. It was her indoors dream
3. two
4,. Not telling as prices are available on line and discounts for those who ask!

My current N&B Arto coming up 9 years ownership, the price is a bit fuzzy because p ex was involved but about £75k at 1 year old.

I had 2 previous, another Arto 6 years (I think) and an Autotrail in the nineties for 1 year.

1) out current HymerCar small but perfectly formed ?
2) has everything we need for long journeys and breaks winter or summer
3) one a T5 great but for short breaks ( have a Hilleberg tent and has always trekked and camped so a MoHo is 5 star camping
4) lots and have willingly forgotten

First van Autosleeper Gatcombe. Well fitted but very limited outside storage.
Second, Knaus Sport with a fixed bed over garage. Good van with huge payload - never maxed it out.
Current van 3.5t Hymer Exsis. Payload not as good as the Knaus but best feature is that it's narrow, anywhere a parcel van can go then so can I. Also, I've changed the mirrors to short arm making it better still.

In 2008, we bought our first UK motorhome. It was a 4 year-old Ace Novello 2-berth motorhome on a Fiat Ducato which we bought for £17,000 at British Car Auctions. It was a hire purchase finance company’s snatch-back. This was during the Global Financial Crisis.
The bailiffs managed to get both sets of keys, the van was in immaculate condition and there was even a full tank of diesel.

We loved that van. We kitted it out with stuff bought from charity shops, Matalan and TK Maxx and then took it around the British Isles at least three times (6-month trips each year) and toured Eastern Europe for six months. The only thing that went wrong was a wheel baring in Austria.

I think we calculated that in the four years we owned her we had spent over 700 nights in her and visited something like 28 countries.

We put her back into British Car Auctions after 4 years and sold her for £15,000. Depreciation of £2,000.

We didn’t love her just because she was a bargain. We loved her because; 1)the layout suited us (rear kitchen), 2) all the “niggles” had already been ironed out by the previous owner, 3) she had a “dog box” storage unit on the back which was ideal for keeping all our “souvenirs”, and, 4) because she wasn’t flashy and new, we were not precious about taking her onto narrow, bumpy, inhospitable roads.

I still miss Betty.

Loved the Bedford CF I had in 87. Elevating roof. Didn’t cost a lot, 1 careful owner, a Vicars wife. :whistle2: When the cambelt went it was so easy to replace, no damage to the engine.
Since 2016 we have had 4 vans in quick secession, that’s why it is important to do your research. Each had a different problem.
The van I have now ticks all the boxes, in length, engine size and heating. Hopefully we will keep it more then a year this time.:wine::oops:

Mine was the Fleetwood Jamboree, it cost ten grand cos it was old, It had everything I wanted, apart from being left hand drive(it’s only let down), but it didn’t bother me. I had two others before that and four campevans, two were Danbury’s and two were self builds. I think we started in 1979 or thereabouts (y) (y)

1 Our current(and only) one, an N&B Arto 69GL(2003). Had it 10.5 years
2 Good quality, garage, panoramic view.
3 No others
4 £27,500 at 6 years old.

I reckon I got really lucky first time round.

This one has been our best one by far. And is currently available for sale

The best one is always the one we have at the moment :-)

But build quality wise, I thing the best has got to be or old 1987(ish ) Hobby 6 berth

Our present one, Autotrail Delaware (fixed bed) is our favourite.
We had two before, a medium wheel based Fifer (from Amstruther) and then a Talbot Express. The Fifer was brilliant but too small, and the Talbot was a stopgap and underpowered.
There is really no comparison as each suited me (not my wife) at the time. Over a few years we came to realise that we needed a motorhome, not a campervan. We need room to be apart as our sleeping patterns are very different, and having a separate bedroom is essential.
The Delaware was 6 months old when we bought it and the original owner had specified an upgraded engine to 150bhp, Comformatic gearbox and a bike rack. These all ticked our boxes. When new they were advertised at £70,000 and we paid £60,000, with one year’s insurance and other “freebies”, which I thought was a bargain but we have since realised that it is a 2015 model on a 2016 plate. We actually prefer the 2015 interior and, as far as I can tell, nothing else changed. We have always wondered why to original owner decided to sell with only 6,000 miles on the clock but at the time thought that low mileage was good. Since then we have realised (from posting on this forum) that this may not be good. However, we have had few problems, so feel lucky. We were also reassured by posts here showing the some owners sell quickly when they realised they have bought the wrong van.

The one we have now.
Because we built ourselves and it has everything we want.
£3000
Two this time round, various years ago.

1. The self-built Boxer we have now
2. It was designed for full-timing so is spacious and has so many home comforts like 240v on tap, instant hot water, Media PC, permanent WiFi, Tassimo, voice and app control, Lithium, list is endless...
3. 3 I think. An A Class first (Pilote) 12 years back, then a new PVC (Adria), then a cheap self-build
4. I dread to think. I bought the van 7 years ago for around £10k and originally spent about the same converting it. Since then it's had two refits (current layout and spec is about perfect for us) and a new engine. And it isn't finished :)

1. Currently 2014 Pilote Explorateur G741
2. Payload and layout - two single beds with no steps up to them.
3.twelve before this one (since 2008)
4.circa 45k

A K reg 196? VW Danbury. Had Christmas away in Spain. When the legionaries epidemic was in Spain stayed for 2 weeks in Benidorm

L reg 1972. Westfalia to heavy underpowered. Never went away in it.

The one I have now see avatar for details.
Probably paid too much but SWMBO liked it so it became ours.
Only had 6 nights away so far. Will I have more ? Who knows.

Our current van, a 2003 Hymer B 524, which we have owned from new.
Two superb beds, a large comfortable lounge, a garage for two bikes and all in 6 MTRS.
One previous, a Autosleeper Ravana
At the time £45000 a kings ransom now..

I do like our current van a Carthago but not had a lot of use out of it since we bought it last June. It sat on the drive for a month while it was being registered then only had a month away really.
I was happy with our previous Dethleffs apart from not being able to put the bikes in otherwise we would have kept it.
When I change I would like the N&B and think the 78f suits our needs perfect but would want the bigger garage.

I thought our Duetto was excellent until we found it rusted faster than it used fuel.
The Rienza has proved be a good choice and will provide an excellent base for our retirement tours.
