So last month we were down in Dorset and found West Bay Station Yard Car Park with Motorhome parking. £10 for the day. We parked for 2 days running and spent money in the station kitchen the first day (over £100) and had breakfast and ice ceam the next. Decided to come back this week. Parked up as before and paid and then a nice couple drew our attention to the new signage saying no motorhomes.
I remembered that West Bay Road Car Park had dedicated bays so we went there, parked up and as we had paid £10 at the Station Yard thought I would see if there was a number I could call to see if ticket could be transferred. Sign says Motorhomes up to 6m only so nowhere to park for us anymore there. (Ended up at Hive Beach £8 for the day - dedicated long motorhome area was full of cars but room to park at top of car park)

Surely it's their choice?
Dorset hospitality businesses complain that they get no visitors during the winter - but if they allowed motorhomes to park up overnight in their car parks, they would benefit hugely. Dorset is as lovely in the winter as it is in the summer.

It is of course their choice, but having just returned from Northumberland where it seems to be much more motorhome friendly, I wish that county was my neighbour instead of Dorset!

I get the same feeling of importance on a couple of motorbike forums I go on.
Bleating about folk not liking bikes or the riders.

Live and let live and go somewhere else :)

I have no idea what you’ve just written.

I merely stated facts, but you’ve turned it into something confrontational.

What is your problem?

Live and let live and go somewhere else
Yes..... absolutely, I will go somewhere else and hope they have to massively increase the rates so the locals can't afford their luxuries....... Live and let live !!!!

With so many camp sites on that stretch of coast it's inevitable the vested interests will discourage motorhomes from staying in the bay itself.

Thanks for the heads up on station rd. Have the dedicated spaces with m/h signs gone then?? We pull in there quite often.I knew west bay road had banned motorhomes ( even though council website gives prices for motorhomes!!) -we saw a parking officer dishing out tickets to 4 motorhomes when we were there a couple of months ago. Bridport just down the road has dedicated motorhome bays at station car park, as for hive beach we are NT members so just park for free in the field car park. never any problem.

The spaces are still there at Station Yard but the Motorhomes Only signs have gone and the board now shows no motorhomes. West Bay Road Car Park still has the spaces and Motorhomes 6m and under can park for £13 per day. Bridport spaces are also 6m limit.

That makes no sense, they had nice sized dedicated spaces for much bigger than 6m. We’re ok but our friends we were planning to met there are 6.8m!
Would love to know the official reasoning behind this.

Anyone used Bridport FC car park?
There are a load of us at Highlands End for a meet at the weekend, I know Nick and I will be walking through there at least once. I will try to remember to look as there are no marked bays at all.

Hi did you manage to take a look?

How funny we have just walked past and I have taken a photo, I said to Nick that I bet I will never find the thread! Good news as well because you can. It’s less than 10 minutes into Bridport town but I reckon it’s a 30 minute walk to West Bay. Easy on bikes but I’d probably take them under the underpass to avoid the roundabout as I’m a wimp!

The walk to West Bay is about 30 mins. from the FC - the dogs enjoyed it when we were last there! (y)

Fantastic thanks for that, much appreciated as we’re off to the Eype site on Friday.
I think the weather looks set to last for you. It really is my favourite place. We’ve just got back after a lovely walk. Nick even had a bacon and sausage bap, I’m afraid I had Victoria sponge. Not the healthiest of lunches but we’re on holiday! We have walked 6 or 7 miles.

That car park sign is a bit confusing....motorhomes allowed but max vehicle length 4.8m. I wonder if motorhomes are excluded from vehicle length? I doubt it!!

I would guess that somebody on the council owns a nearby campsite or has a vested interest in one. 😡😡😡😡

There were motorhomes there and one was an enormous home conversion so I think it will be OK. I think it must be a standard print perhaps for the other parks as there are no marked bays at all, it’s a real free for all. It says no buses but on match days there would be buses.

We were there Saturday waiting for a taxi up the hill to Highlands End, and noticed a couple of Motorhome parked in the car park. I also noticed there are several dedicated MH parking spaces at the bus station car park in Bridport when we got off the bus from Lyme Regis yesterday, but that is the other side of town.

A VW T5 is 4.89m (SWB) or 5.29m (LWB), so they really would be limiting the number of motorhomes that can stay if that sign is true.
But it doesn't give a motorhome exception on length, so I'd be wary stopping there.
